Hello there this is Puhnupetteris battle Report. Battle took place in small valley that led to elvish lands owned by High Elves. Stakes were high. Both armys looked fierce. All blades were sharpened and armys prepared to take match each other

All sides described in battle report are from my point of view. From my army side

    Deployment
Eagle Spear PG Spear Swordmaster Eagle CS(my)

    Cs
    Skrox Sally

    SW TG SW(spear)

(Check images for get better picture of game)

    Turn 1 Juha
Eagle charged CS unit. Got itself killed because of stand and shoot, rest of Juha's army moved forward. Magic Phase: 11 PD for Juha. He tried fury of khane wich got dispelled. After that he did Flames of phoenix wich killed 4 SW spear. One mage did Drain Magic.

    Turn 1 Puhnupetteri
2x SW , TG sit like duck. I decided to try to play defencively as Juha had no Shooter's and i had many harrasser. Skink Cohort and 2x CS unit moved forward. 1 CS unit was stubidly deployed so it couldnt shoot anything for 3 first turn of game -.-. On my magic phase I got 5 DP i tried to dispell Flame of phoenix but failed with 3 dices! Very bad luck. After that i didint manage to do anything on magic phase. I ofc shot rear's of Juha's army. Salamander and CS on left took some Juhas spearmen. Salamander on right decided it was time for dinner and he ate 2 skink

    Turn 2 Juha
Charged with his Prince to spear them that was flaming on my right. He issued challenge wich i took with my champion to avoid losses for rest of unit. Ofc champion died on same turn. Also juha marched forward with rest of his army. On his casting turn he casted again with 1 mage drain magic suscessfully.

    Turn 2 Puhnupetteri
Magic P: Failed to dispell Flame of khane with 4 PD WTF! Well after that i casted Dwellers from below to Sword masters with irresistable cast 13 of them died. Slann used cupped hands and i rolled 1. So i suffered mistcast effect Blowing Str 10 wound and killing 6 TG. I shot again flanks of Juha's army with CS and salamander. In CC Scar Vet challenged Griffin /w prince. Griffin suffered 1 wound from scar Vet. Scar Vet suffered 1 wound

    Turn 3 Juha
Juha charged Skrox unit with spearmen's. Stand and shoot only killed 1. Phoenix guard attacked Temple guard unit killing 5 of them. Juha casted again flame of phoenix This time on HW saurus unit with 30 strong. Killing 5 of them. Skrox unit paniced in CC and spearmens catched em rolling 6 inc -.-. Prince with griffin killed Scar Vet. Rest of SW unit with spears got wiped too :(

    Turn 3 Puhnupetteri
At this point i realised the battle was uphill. Either i take points from 2x spearunit to be sure with points or i take hell of risk (its dice game really :) ) So i decided "hell this is friendly game" i tried to still win and took risk and ordered SW unit to charge phoenix Guard's flank. 2x Salamander and 1 Cs shot full spearmen Unit on right killing 21 spearmen and other CS unit killed 1 mage with steed. I managed to dispell flames of phoenix from HW SW unit. I even killed some phoenix guard.

    Turn 4 Juha
Prince charged SW unit, and Sword masters charged rest of TG's. Final TG's got killed. Slann was alone. Slann fled, SW paniced... After seeing these i gave my lieutenant order to give sound for retreat.. I had lost.

I gave up. Battle had ended.

    Conclusion:
Rolling 1 on cupped hands, failing to dispell 2 times that flaming spell on SW and blowing TG unit, running away with Skrox unit from 10 elf spear was BAD luck. I think some god of dices hate me. I think with army like these i SHOULD have won. Okey i made a mistake with other CS unit in deployment.

Anyone have any suggestion to my Army how i could improve it? I tought i played very balanced army but faced army that was only focused for Melee. Im concidering to take that wardsave killer on other Scar veteran and removing Skrox unit and take 2x Skink skirmisher unit. ** EDIT** Accually i have 3x Skink skirmisher team on my latest armylist wich seems far more better than this list

    * If you have suggestion to my armylist please do it in my armylist thread* http://www.lustria-online.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5918&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=10

At lately i have played againts:
I have played 2 times againts Dwarf's 1 Win, 1 Draw.. (Okey if we look more back in histroy i losed 3 times row before these but back then i was newbie with worlds crappiest army with cold ones and stegadon)
I have played 2 times againts HE now. Both losses
I have played 1 time againts Beastmen now. Lose

So conclusion: If you roll like shit even with uber army u might lose. And i have always bad luck with dices so I lose alot. :) Past games i have terrible luck. Rolling 12' times one or something in CC etc. Failing cupped hands, rolling mistcast on first round's of battle losing slann and losing stegadon to dwarf almost everytime in first round.

These pictures begin from Round 1. Pictures from deployment went with other camera

Thanks for the report, love ones with pictures.
Also the red saurus are pretty awesome.

I'll let the other pro's comment on tactics but losing your whole sKrox unit first round of combat was certianly a kick in the teeth.

    First off: Love the pictures!

    Then, to the battle:
Your list is fine, it's balanced and should give you enough options to deal with any situation.

    As far as tactics go:
    Spearmen > Skrox
10 spearmen is on the low side, but I'd still not be very enthusiastic about engaging them.
Then again: Sauri > HE spearmen. So, use your skrox to flank his Phoenix guard: PG don't have loads of attacks (neither do white lions) and thus this saves you massive ammounts of skinks.

    Magic:
You should try and dispell the 'drain magic' spell, because it absolutely destroys your magic phase. Even if cast once: you're in big trouble! Flames of the Phoenix is a nasty spell, but (usually) the turn it hits isn't too hard on your sauri, but after that: dispel.
Dwellers bellow vs S3 elves...So mean! But oh so effective. Use it wherever possible, which should be about 6 times in a game.

    Positioning:
If you're playing defensively, getting a good position is vital. In this case, you could try and make half a cirle, so if 1 unit is unengaged this unit can flank very easily. You do need more (effective) units than your opponent though.
You could also try the refused flank: set up your light units first, and deploy a block slightly off-center. Now, if your opponent decides to deploy an infantry block normal: proceed with refusing that flank.
If your opponent is on to you and deploys that infantry block also off-center: proceed with normal deployment. This way, you have pretty much always forced him to place 1 block sub-optimal, which is a small victory for you! ;)
Refused flank was possible in this case, because you had more support units and the upperhand in the magic phase (IF you dispelled drain magic).

    Combat:
Swordmasters should be targeted by absolutely everything. These guys wreak havoc against anything they touch. Thus, they should never be allowed to touch a unit. HE spearmen aren't scary, yes they make a load of attacks with re-roll...but most of them bounce harmlessly of the tough scales of sauri.
Pheonix Guard are tough, but they don't have a lot of killing power themselves. Expect to grind here.

    In general:
Your salamanders had absolutely great firing spots, well done.
You deployed very defensively, with no room to make changes/adapt to the situation. The best plan, is one that can be changed (or something like that ;) )

This is my view on the situation, I hope it helps :).
Oh, and we all started out on a losing streak! So don't worry, eventually you'll get the hang of it. It takes longer for some, shorter for others. Just read something on the internet every now and then, that helps to spark new ideas/tactics.

Thank you for fast replys ;) I accually tried to dispell atleast 2 times that first phoenix of flame without succeeding (VERY BAD Dispell throws). And i dispelled total 1 Drain magic... and i dispelled some other spells too wich i think i didint manage to write (cause i dont remeber name and i forgot to write those down) .. ONLY once i managed to dispell phoenix on flame on right time (on HW after fist getting hit by s3, meaning i dispelled it second turn..) that other phoenix flame managed to do s3 , s4 and s5 hit without me able to dispell it >:/ VERY BAD LUCK

I was aware of your bad luck, these wer just some general pointers :). The dice gods are fickle, better to please them!

You can afford to take some losses from other spells he casts, because you can return the favor with your slann in twofold! But if he manages to cast drain magic, your magic phase will be seriously hampered and will drop your kill ratio by a lot.

Better luck next time! (literally, in this case)

Thank you hunter :) for your post

I took rematch againts Juha with his High elves.. this time he had slightly different army and i made few changes to my own

I took 30 Skink skirmisher and removed Skrox team. I also took Scar veteran with cold one and GW..

After playing againts Juha last weekend i managed to get crushing victory with 1000 points for me and he only killed 1 Skink skirmisher unit and 1 Sally :) !!!!

I took your advice and played aggressively and used denied flanks tactic

    I must say its superb

From what i see my latest armylist is very good and balanced. From now on with new learned tactics i think ill try my changes againts anything (Next time ill be facing Juha's 2400 pts Chaos army )

    Cheers!

First off: it's The Hunted. But no hard feelings there :).

Second: glad I could help! Victory by one-thousand points surely is very crushing indeed! Glad my advice helped.
Now try to learn this army well. By that I mean play several battles with (nearly) the same army list. Make some minor tweaks, but let the list itself stay intact. Then after some time, you learn how to deal with any situation and thus making you a better player!

    Good luck!
