8th Ed. 2400 Newbie List

    Hi all, I'm a Lizardmen newbie and I'd like some help putting together a competitive army list. I've never played a WHFB game, but I'm eager to learn. I purchased a whole bunch of painted lizardmen models so I'm ready to go! Here's what I have:

    2x Lizardmen Battalions
    2x Skink Regiments
    1x Stegadon
    4x Terradons
    2x 3 Kroxigors
    1x Slann

    Here's my preliminary army list:

    Slann
    Cupped Hands of the Gods

    24 Skinks
    2 Kroxigors

    24 Skinks
    2 Kroxigors

    18 Saurus
    Spears
    Full Command

    18 Saurus
    Spears
    Full Command

    14 Temple Guard
    Full Command
    Revered Guardian with Sword of The Hornet
    Gleaming Pennant

    7 Cold One Cavalry
    Full Command
    Banner of Switftness

    4 Terradon Riders

    1 Stegadon

    Total: 2394

    Any advice is welcome -- but remember I'm a newbie so be nice! :D

    I presume you are limited by your collection, but you have like 5 combat units which is a bit too much,

    I would

    Combine the two saurus units into a unit of about 30

    Make one large Skrox unit of about 30/35 skinks and 3 or 4 Kroxigors (you need 32 skinks for 4)

    Make the temple guard unit bigger, around 20

    Get rid of the cold one cav and use one or two of the models as Scar Vet heroes on cold one, you need fighty heroes to carry your combat blocks and scar vets are great

    I would remove the stegadon and replace it with a salamander (our best unit) and maybe a skink priest with a dispell scroll.

    About the slann, make him the BSB for sure, also he gets a one free discipline which one are you taking? I would consider buying one or two more disciplines

    What magic lore are you taking on the slann?

    Reduce the skirmishers to 10 from 12

    For the most part, the units are just too small. 18 Saurus is usually too small to be useful, and giving them spears is completely wasted points because the extra guys will die before attacking. I think 14 TG is still in the "death trap" size range, and not a real bodyguard. 7 Saurus Cavalry with upgrades, but no Saurus character, is a pretty terrible use of points. Either use the cavalry as characters and drop the unit, or get more cavalry models to make a big unit with multiple characters.

    A Slann should never be fielded so naked.

    rumination and focus of mystery.

    healing potion seems like an odd choice for slann. I presume you aren't going Life, so maybe I can see that

    scar vet needs a shield if going with a 1-handed weapon

    I'd throw an extra handler on the sallies

    I'd dump the spears and take HW and shield on the saurus.
