8th Ed. 2400 point Club army

    I am goign to going back to one of my old clubs for a few games and they usually play at 2400 point level,

    i have put together what i think is a competitive but no to overpowering list which still requires a bit a tactical nous to use.

    I dont know what people are using at the club at the moment, i know most of them have a Empire army and there are quite a few skaven players as well ( they are all good players)




    Please see the list below- camments ideas and feedback greatly appreciated.

    Normally I usually use Krox as a seperate unit but felt like i might give the Skrox a go as people seem to rave about them.

    the idea behing the chief is to go mage hunting i know a scar vet will probs be more cost effective but i like my terradons and their stomp

    also on a side not since dont use krox and the skinks are armed with javeling just this mean they can stand and shoot?


    For those who know the club is gobstyks, and the warhammer players regular do the GCN club tourniments

    I personally like the Skink Chief on a Terradon. Skinks have a special place in my heart. :rolleyes: I used him in a few small games against Skaven and he did pretty well. Of course he dies easily, but oh well. You have another unit of Terradons to replace him.

    In a 2400 pt game, I would recommend upping the Saurus to 25 or 30 strong. They will probably take a lot of casualties before combat starts, so a little buffer would be nice.

    Also, to answer your question, YES the Skrox can stand and shoot. (with poison, no less!) With only 2 Krox, I would use them as a flanking unit. If you take anything head on your Skinks will give your opponent too much CR. Consider adding another Krox to the units if you want them to take on units solo.

    What lore are you running on the Slann?

    Most likly will be using Light with them,

    With the Skrox i was planning on using them as flanking units rather then head on, the skinks dying to quickly and giving up CR is the reason i dont nomally take them.

    What would you recomend kitting out the skink chief with?

    Also where would you save the points to up the saurus to 30? I prefer to run lists with lots of units rather than 2 big units hense the 2 saurus units, 2 skrox for flanking, the temple guard and frog, with 2 unitis of skirmishers to harry and harrs, cham skins to war machine hunt and the terradons for support to each areas where needed?


    what about instead combining the 2 units into 1- 40 strong instead? also are the TG on the llight side with only 20 inthe unit?

    For the disciplines on your slann, I would take Rumination and Mystery over Cogitation if I had the choice. If I felt I need cogitation (against the dreaded 13th spell or some such), I would take Rumination and Cogitation.

    I say that because the extra casting die for each spell is a huge advantage. If you have to chose between Mystery and Cogitation, if you take Cogitation you will still more than likely get the spells you want.

    I would probably combine the saurus units into one unit. Support that with the skrox and you should do fine. Also, with 40 saurus, you could take a horde formation and get 4 ranks of attacks (41 total with champ). Buff them with speed of Light (i10 ws10) and go first as well!

    Just my .02 cents.

    So other than that looks okay- i know its a fairly cookie cutter list though,

    other advise i had been given was to ditch the skrox, combine the saurus, add an EOTG and another steg,

    im not a big fan of them though to be honest(unless someone can pursaude me otherwise) (but ill admit it would be cool to run a skink priest spam list)

    Hmm, I think your skink chief is good. I don't recall the points cost, but Dawnstone (Opal Amulet? I don't remember which does what) or Charmed Shield or Amulet of Itzl would be good. Something for him to shrug off a cannon ball.

    And to get points for your Saurus... 2 units of 30 means 20 more guys, so 240 more points... hmmm. Drop Mystery and take Plaque of Tepok... Drop one Terradon... Drop one extra handler... Drop Spears! This will give you enough wiggle room for 2 units of 25. Me likey much better :smug:

    Of course if you are comfortable with units of 20, then by all means. Just make sure they get something squishy to beat up on before they get shot or magicked to pieces.

    im in agreement the 20 is quite a small volume at thsi points level and will struggle to enter comabt without taking quite a bit of damage.

    However i am a big fan of spears rather than sword and board ( iknow math hammer probs says hw&S is better) as i tend the use the saurus more deffensivly, using them to anchor the opponents in place while i then possition for a flank charge.

    My view was that with the terradons and the cham skinks war machines should be elimnated quickly and archers would either be looking to shoot these, or be tied up by the terradons for a couple of turns to allow the saurus to get there relativly unscathed, but i think that is proberbly wishfull thinking on my behalf.

    Also out of intrest since ive never used a mixed skrox unit- how good are they against cav- liek outriders/pistoliers/silverhelms etc...

    I would combine the saurus and the skorx units, running them both in horde. Light is not really a defensive lore so run up and smash face, loremaster not really worth it so you could just take the extra spell plaque.

    Charmed shield, asf sword, potion of strength would be nice on the chief-missile.

    I would probably drop a terradon and add some chameleons to get two units.

    On my upcoming list vs Empire @2400, I was think about leaving slaan on this one. Destroyed my opponent first time around with slaan and he says he has to take that damn frog out. So I know his focus will be on the slaan...But if I don't bring him, I highly doubt he will expect the unexpected... so here is a quick list that was made in mere minutes..point being fast movement and shooting units especially terradon unit for the first round after the vanguard movement since they cannot charge and with a total movement of up to 32" first turn I might as well take shots. And 3 str 5 with better ballistics skill is great.
