I'm heading to a tournament in a few weeks where I'm hoping to be able to do well. In order to do this and considering the local metagame I really need to ensure my army is able to provide a very hard counter to Ogres, new WoC, Chaos Dwarves and monstrous cavalry.

Relevant Comp: Max 90 shots (skink cohorts don't count as 12"), 0-3 skink cohorts without krox, 0-3 Sallys, No ethereal/crown of command on same model and only 2 of cupped hands, becalming, dispel scrolll, cube.

I'm leaning heavily towards taking a dual slann list as I don't feel that a tooled up Life Slann will be able to give me what I need on its own. At this point I'm looking at two similar lists:

    List 1:

    Slann - Rumination/Shadow
Slann - BSB, Dispel Scroll, Mystery, Life

    23 Saurus - Muso+Standard
    10 Skink Skirmishers (Javelins)
    10 Skink Skirmishers (Javelins)
    10 Skink Skirmishers (Javelins)
    10 Skink Cohort +Muso
    10 Skink Cohort +Muso
    10 Skink Cohort +Muso

    20 Temple Guard - Muso + Standard
    9 Camo Skinks
    9 Camo Skinks
    6 Camo Skinks
    3 Terradons
    3 Terradons
    3 Terradons

    2 Salamanders
    1 Salamanders

The idea of the list is to pull the usual Lizardmen antics using skirmishers and the death of a thousand cuts supported by Dweller's and Pit of Shades where needed. If it comes down to it I can commit into combat the two blocks against weakened enemies and supported by Shadow Hexes and Life Buffs.

    List 2:

    Slann - Death, Mystery
Slann - Death, Rumination, Earthing Rod, BSB

Scar Vet - Cold One, Amulet of Itzi, Burning Blade, Biting Blade, Dragonhelm, Shield
Scar Vet - Cold One, Charmed Shield, Dragonbane Gem, Great Weapon, Light Armour
Skink Priest- Lvl 1, Dispel Scroll

    20 Saurus - Muso+Standard
    10 Skink Skirmishers (Javelins)
    10 Skink Skirmishers (Javelins)
    10 Skink Skirmishers (Javelins)
    10 Skink Cohort +Muso
    10 Skink Cohort +Muso
    10 Skink Cohort +Muso

    9 Camo Skinks
    9 Camo Skinks
    6 Camo Skinks
    3 Terradons
    3 Terradons
    3 Terradons

    2 Salamanders
    1 Salamanders

Very similar army, the idea is that Death can reliably snipe characters, ruin ogres with purple suns and put doom and darkness into play to make the salamanders a huge threat.

Any thoughts on how these armies could be optimised considering the comp and the meta would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers. Jeff

Well first of all I can see that both lists will cause much hatred towards you. All skirmisher lists tend to pull out the worst in people.

The first list looks good. Are you running one Slann solo or is he going in the Saurus? Also keep in mind that your Slann will have to answer a challenge in either of those Saurus units due to the lack of champions. Without Death magic or a fighty character to respond to challenges, it is very possible to get a beefy combat character into combat. Especially if they have a 1+/3++ or a re-rollable armor save to shrug off all the poison shooting. You could always decline, but then you lose either the BSB reroll or Inspiring Presence. Something to think about.

The second list could be streamlined. I think double Death Slann's is a poor choice. Why limit yourself to only 7 spells? The second Slann could easily take Light, Life, or Shadow and complement the Loremaster Death Slann very nicely.

The Skink Priest is kind of a waste of points for a tournament. He won't do much and probably wont ever get to cast his spell. I'd put the BSB on a Scar-Vet and put the D-Scroll on a Slann. With the points saved on the Pirest you could pick up something nice for the Scar-Vet BSB. I recommend the Crown of Command on the guy with the Great Weapon.

This guy has 2 magic weapons. That's a no-no. I'd drop the Biting Blade.

My final recommendation would be to make a hybrid of these lists. Drop the HW&S Saurus from list 1 and replace them with the two Scar-Vets, points permitting. Perhaps run one Scar-vet in the Slann/TG block to take on enemy fighter characters.

    Oh, and welcome to L-O!
