Hey Guys, So I've got a tournament coming up (in January). It's 2400 points and I've been thinking a lot about tweaking my lists to include Terradon Riders. So here is the list I was thinking of running: Core ------------ 30x Saurus Warriors - Spears - Musician - Champion - Standard Bearer Anvil. 6x5 works well as the amount of attacks coming back can hurt. Can hold up the more elite troops. 30x Saurus Warriors - Spears - Musician - Champion - Standard Bearer Anvil. 6x5 works well as the amount of attacks coming back can hurt. Used to have the Sun Standard but found most people don't shoot the unit. Changed to Eternal Banner for the Double Hydra/Varghulf and Abomination's being pelted at me. 5 x Chameleon Skinks 10 BS4 S3 poison shots are great. Standard now in all my armies. 5 x Chameleon Skinks 10 BS4 S3 poison shots are great. Standard now in all my armies. 3x Terradon Riders D3 S4 Drop Rocks seems good. Might work at harrasing smaller units. 3x Terradon Riders D3 S4 Drop Rocks seems good. Might work at harrasing smaller units. Rare ------------ 1x Salamander Hunting Pack - Additional Skink Handler per Salamander Haven't yet had much success with these guys. I think I'm using them wrong. I keep them wide in the flank unprotected. Might try closer and see how I go. 1x Salamander Hunting Pack - Additional Skink Handler per Salamander Haven't yet had much success with these guys. Lords ------------ 1x Slann Mage Priest - Focus of Mystery - Focused Rumination - The Becalming Cogitation - Unfathomable Presence - Cupped Hands of the Old Ones - Battle Standard Bearer - Standard of Discipline - Lore of Life Pretty Standard Life Slann I think except I've added Unfathomable Presence to give him a 1+ WS against Magic (although 1 will always fail, so essentially 2+) to protect him from Death Magic and provides my Temple Guard with a 4+ WS against magic (wished it worked for Purple Sun ). So what do you think? My main backbone can be quite slow with movement 4 but the harrasing units can move fast. The army playstyle is quite defensive funneling and waiting for the opponent to hit you. Total ------------ Models in Army: 108 Total Army Cost: 2390 The weakness I see is Magic and Shooting taking down my Terradon's but Chameleon Skinks also suffer the same weakness and there performance is always outstanding.
I like to have one block with HW and shield and the other one with Spears and shield. That 6+ parry save has proved itself VERY worthy against high S troops. I like the list, it seems fairly balanced, I would fit some skink skirmishers in for extra shootiness but they aren't as deadly as the chameleons. They are less expensive though and people tend to underestimate them. The banner in your TG unit can be a risky choice if your opponent ends up having a immune to flaming attacks unit.
Actually, I never considered that. Never came across an army with one. What armies can get immune to flaming and how? With Flaming becoming more popular, immunity to it might as well.
I like it. I would possibly combine the two sallies. Also you can save yourself 5 pts on your Slann by taking the obsidian lodestone instead of Unfathomable Presence, just a thought.
Running the Sallies as separate units allow's some versatility in deployment and target choice. Normally, I do run them together as separate units. I double-team the one target unit but if required, I do have the option to split them and target others if 2 are not needed. You are completely right about the Obsidian Lodestone, totally missed that.
High Elves dragon princes are the 1st unit that come to my mind. I think there is a bannr that provide a strong ward save vs flaming attacks but I don't have a copy of the BRB to check it right now since I'm at work. It would just suck to have a big strong unit like yours stuck in combat because it's unable to deal wounds. I'd either put the BSB on a Scar-Vet and give the banner to a Saurus unit (a combo less predictable) or simply pick something else. Just my two cents .
Not to be splitting hairs but the dragin orinces are no longer imune to fire attacks. Instead they use a 2+ ward save against flaming atacks. To me it seems like a minor difference but apparently the HE-players are devestated by the news.
I guess it means your still wounding on 6's and with enough attacks hitting back, it could hurt. Although i'm not sure why someone would run a unit of dragon princes into a 20 strong temple guard that are stubborn with a slann
