Hi, New to the forum and new to Lizards I now feel I need some advice for building my army. I "started" LM about 1 or 2 years ago, lost track of time a bit, by byuing some stuff, and now I decided after coming back to WH that it's about time to do something more with them. I'm not sure yet what I want in my army but I have made on decision at least and that is to skip the toad and go for the most bad-ass model imaginable instead, the Carnosaur mounted Old Blood. That said, I can also add I'm leaning towards a more character and big monster heavy army than my current Wood Elves which I havce played very core heavy. What I would like to field is, apart from the afore mentioned Carnie, 2 Stegs and some tough blocks of troops, either Saurus, Skrox or both. Salamanders seem to be highly regarded so I'll throw in some of those too. So far though I have only managed to settle for some heroes. This is for a 2400p general list, though I will mostly be facing VC and Empire. Possibly Skaven. Here's what I got so far: Lord Old Blood Carnosaur Great Weapon Armor of Destiny Dawnstone Venom of the Firefly Frog 452p Heroes Skink Priest Diadem of Power 90p Skink Priest Dispel Scroll 90p Saurus Scar-Veteran Light Armor, Shield Burning Blade of Chotek 113p Saurus Scar-Veteran Light Armor, Shield Sword of Battle BSB 138p Saurus Scar-Veteran Cold One Light Armor Sword of Might Charmed Shield Talisman of Protection 150p For the rest I'd like some advice. I have been thinking to have 2 blocks of Saurus and put a ScarVet in each. Ride the OB up one flank together with something else, possibly some Skrox. Preferably two Stegs also. Maybe also with the ScarVet on CO, though he might also work as lone rider (cowboy?). Add to that Chameleons and Salamanders. Problem is I'm running out of points. As far as possible I would like to use the models I have already (36 Saurus with HW+S, 12 Skinks with blowpipes, 1 unfinished Steg, 1 Salamander). (Edit: Also have 19 Temple Guard and 8 Cold One cav) Grateful for any insightful advice. Cheers /HC
Here is a army selection for you: 2x24 Saurus w/HW & FC 1x Baby Steg 1x Ancient Steg 2x1 Salamander w/Extra Handlers 1x10 Skink Skirmishers 1x10 Skink Skirmishers w/ Javelins I think that brings your army up to 2397. So you'd put a SV in each saurus block to make them 5x5. Run your baby steg with the Carno on one flank and the Cowboy with the ancient steg on the other flank for a pincer type army. Of course you shouldn't lose all of those big monsters in one turn, but you can expect at least one to die before combat. Use your skinks to tie up warmachines ASAP. Alternatively you can swap out one of the skirmisher units for a unit of chameleons to ensure less attacks on the monsters right off the bat. Use your sallies to burn things. I know that doesn't use all of your current models, but it's a start. You just need to make sure you have 600 pts in core troops. If you want your CoC, trade one of the stegs out. Be sure to give them the sun standard so they survive shooting a little easier.
Thanks for your reply Qupakoco, it's much appreciated. Looks like a pretty solid list and not to complicated either. I'll try out the pincer tactic when I get a chance to play. The Saurus blocks are bigger than I have models for but I'm going to need new models either way so that's not really an issue. From what I heard CoC is a bit to expensive so I'll probably leave those out for now. One tnew thing is that today I aquired 2 fully painted terradons (old model) and I also have an inherited one, also fully painted, from before, totalling 3. I might try to squeeze those three in somehow at some point. Looking forward to trying this out! /HC
Terradons would only add to the impressiveness of all the dinosaurs in your army They have the vanguard move, and being skirmishers that means that they can cover anywhere from 22"-32" in the first turn. Add 12" to shooting and you are pretty much on top of whatever would be threatening your big old t-rex and triceratops. And if you don't get the first turn, your opponent either has to shoot them or be prepared to get charged by them on the next turn. Win-win! Seeing how your points are so tight, you may benefit from dropping one of your Scar-Vets. That way you can have a little more flexibility in your points. Also, you can probably proxy some of your TG as regular saurus. Just run it by your opponent first. Fill up the first few ranks of each saurus unit with regular saurus and place the TG in the rear ranks. That way they are just unit fillers and are removed first.
Thumbs up on the teradons, set up, vanguard forward 12 and then march 20 you can be behind enemy lines pretty quick.
Terradons it is then! This list is still pretty far off since I decided that this time around I will do it right and only play with painted models. But I will take in all advice in building up my cold blooded force. /HC
I have used the following list to great success... played 4 won 4 (although only against 2 different people and not the most experienced players) Oldblood, Carnosaur, Sword of the Hornet, Potion of Strength, Armour of Destiny, Shield Scar Vet, BSB, Tricksters Helm, Light Armour, Shield Scar Vet, Great Weapon, Other Tricksters Shard, DragonHelm, Luckstone Skink Priest, Lvl 2, Diadem of Power Skink Priest, Cube of Darkness. 49 Saurus, Command 10 Skink Skirmishers 10 Skink Skirmishers 4 Terradons 7 Chameleons 7 Chameleons Ancient Stegadon Salamander, extra handler Salamander, extra handler Total is bang on 2400 I think Carno and steg hide near scenery until they can get close to charge, or terradons and chameleons have killed war machines. Skirmishers redirect/kill off light arrmour Saurus block + SVs march into whatever they have and hold it. Priests chuck iceshard blizz at warmachines or augment/hex if possible. Salamanders make a nuisance of themselves Hope this helps
