Hey there! There will be an upcoming tourney, and I'm considering taking the following list: - oldblood on cold one, general, stegadon helm, talisman of preservation, potion of foolhardines, great weapon - oldblood on cold one, piranha blade, charmed shield, dawnstone, potion of strength - oldblood on cold one, armor of destiny, obsidian lodestone, great weapon - scar-veteran on cold one, bsb, gamblers armor, ironcurse icon, great weapon - skink priest, lvl beasts, dispell scroll - tetto'eko - 5x10 skirmisher - 2x10 cohort, musician - 1x20 cohort, fc - 2x3 terradon riders - 11 cold one riders, musician, standard bearer. I'm considering totally skipping the scrollbearer, since the bus has MR3 anyway... might be risky, a purple sun can ruin my day... but if I skip it, I can swap potion of foolhardiness to other trickster shard, and the bsb can be better equipped(he supposed to be in the 2nd rank anyway). The other option is to downgrade the 3rd oldblood to a scar-veteran, and drop MR3.OOOR... downgrade to scar-veteran, bsb with mr3 and ironcurse, wich leaves me 80 point to spend(on what...?) What do you think, guys?
My opinion: keep the scroll. With that many points invested you need to close down as many magic phases as possible, and with Tetto's vanguard that will be 1-2. IF there is a Psun in the list, you will have to survive two rounds of max-dicing. If you decide to go for OTS, remember that it also works on your own boys, including when rolling MR wardsaves. also, I would consider taking out 1 COR to get another lvl on the Beast skink. That gives you 33.33% chance of rolling either Savage beast or Pelt instead of 16.66% and last: if you end up losing up points, a priest with scroll of shielding might be worth your while! That said I wish I could play that list the ETC prevents me!
well, the updated version, thanks to you: - oldblood on cold one, general, stegadon helm, talisman of preservation, great weapon - oldblood on cold one, piranha blade, charmed shield, dawnstone, potion of strength - oldblood on cold one, armor of destiny, obsidian lodestone, ironcurse icon, great weapon - scar-veteran on cold one, bsb, banner of swiftness, great weapon - skink priest, lvl2 beasts, dispell scroll - tetto'eko - 5x10 skirmisher - 2x10 cohort, musician - 1x20 cohort, fc - 1x3 terradon riders - 1x3 terradon riders, fireleech bolas - 10 cold one riders, musician, standard bearer.
I like the OTS, it is a solid choice. It does receive stiff competition from the crown of command, depending on the build you are going for. It's a shame that it affects friendlies in base contact, but at least it doesn't affect the bearer.
Downsides of OTS can be negated by smart placement of characters. The situation where OTS is good, arises in almost every matchup. Our chars are going to face ward saves. I guess I play relatively lot against woc and doc so there it is extra useful, but mostly characters will have wards saves.
Precisely. I figure that most armies are going to field at least a key character or two with ward saves. If you want to build an Oldblood to go character hunting than the OTS is a huge bonus. Against Daemons it is even better! For instance, if you want to kill a WoC Daemon Prince... Great Weapon 4+ Ward Save Re-rollable 1+ armour save OTS!!!
I know OTS is good, but my strategy in most cases is to kill the unit first, then even if I dont manage to kill the character, there is a good chance to make him flee. With this bus, he/she has to do 3 wounds with that character to prevent fleeing (not talking about demon princes, but dp has only 5+ ward save, bit overkill in my opinion). Other thing: Im not sure if I should take that mr3 or not... if I remove it, I could fit in skavenpelt banner, wich would add 10 extra attack plus extra chance for PF. With that, and being buffed either with wyssains or harmonic... the result is devastation. Thoughts about this?
Personally I'm not a big fan of the Skavenpelt banner. It's a lot of points for a rule that has major downsides and the ability to be lost. Additionally, I think it leaves your scar-vet a bit vulnerable.
