How do you plan on keeping your slann alive? Higher state is great against some armies, but some armies it is disastrous:
skaven WMs are warpfire, which are magic.
ALL of wood elves are going to be magical shooting attacks
Flying demon lords or vampire lords with magic weapons will make quick work of the slann
Anyone who packs in a whole lot of magic missiles (although its hard to get through the 4+ ward).

Personally, I would take the +2 MR talisman, giving you a 2+ save on magic.
If your opponent has some flying, you can expect them to try and tie your slann up in CC. Although they may never kill the slann, all of your magic missiles are useless unless you have a preist to cast through.
A skink cohort can act as a very cheap alternative to the TG bunker. This will save you from being shot off the board by WE and skaven (at least for a round or 2).
WD is one of the best lores to have with a TG bunker since you are usually throwing 2 dice at spells.

If you watch your positioning of the slann very carefully you can prevent fliers from charging him (by not allowing enough room for them to fit). If there is lots of terrain this can work very well, if it is terrain sparse, you are a sitting frog.

I will say though, if you know your opponent has no magic weapons (such as a dragon + rider with GW) then you slann has nothing to fear (as you well know), but you should always have a backup plan if they come packing.
