Hello. This is the second list i've scribed up, for killing vamps. As the title suggests im not entirly sure about it due to the entoxicating amount of points in the characters (but im hoping it'll pay off for the sheer hitting power.) So, here it goes. C&C welcome, and if you'd like to suggest what tactics i should use, i wont object Lords: Slann, re-roll miscast (probably not advised, but i'm more then a little paranoid i'll regret not having this,) +1 PD, whole lore (im thinking light,) divine plaque of protectiong. 405 points. (I don't have temple guard, which i think i'll cop it for, but the idea is that he hides behind a Saurus unit.) Heroes: Skink Priest, level 2 Engine Of The Gods, Diadem of power 415 points. Skink Chief, Ancient Steg. Steg. War Spear. 380 points (Im thinking he'll be good for charging a unit, getting a massive amount of wonds on them, then making the crumble.) Core: 18 Saurus, spears, musition, standard. 234 points 15 Saurus, musition, standard. 183 points. 15 Saurus, musition, standard. 183 points. 10 Skink skirmishers. 70 points. 10 Skink skirmishers. 70 points. 10 skink skirmishers. 70 points. 22 Skinks, 2 Kroxigor. 220 points. (For protecting hopefully getting a killer charge in, and maybe protecting a flank?) 2 Razordons. 150 points. 2 Salamanders. 150 points 2500 on the dot. Those 30 Skinks are there because im used to needing a skirmisher screen... though i think they'll make for some good shooting. The Saurus will hammer everything in combat (the ones with spears will tank for my army, with the Slann taggin behind to make sure they don't run) The Priest is for... well, we all know what they do. The hunting Packs will each take a flank (or both go on one to make a cool flank attacking group) And that's what i plan on doing... C&C on that would be good Also, if you'd like to help me further and give general tips on how to put the vamps. back in the ground, go here: http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/vampire-counts-need-to-be-put-in-the-ground-again.1891/\ Thanks.
no temple guard? this is an outrage! they are only our greatest bodyguards ever, against the undead, there even better as they'll actually be able to strike first (lets not forget the ITP!!!!!)
Now if your opponent isnt as mean as the one the my group of friends play, then you'll probably do fine with the current list you have. Depending on how much of a bastard your enemy wants to be, he/she could generate 13 powerdice in one turn and possibly casting up to 7 vandals dance's in a single turn with the current tourny list. If they take that there isn't much you can do but focus on magic defence and be on the offence as much as you can. The slann is probably the best thing you can take in this situation. I'd personally take the cupped hands of the oldones on him and make a vampire take a miscast. Lore of light ftw. Other than that i'd drop the salamanders. If your opponent uses alot of ghouls/ graveguard as their intfantry, the salamanders cant make them panic, and since they have toughness 4 you'll need 5's to wound them, which is possible but not worth it imo. Instead you can, take a unit of terradons to marchblock and take out any lone things such as the corpse cart or maybe a wandering vampires (make sure its not a vampire built for combat). I also reccomend temple guard. :3
CUPPED HANDS OF THE OLD ONES! the re-roll magic table thingy is ok, but its 50 points that could be better used. Get the focussed rumination and the "know all lores" one, that should be good enough. Also, DO NOT do the following -take normal skinks, even with kroxigors in them. None. Not one. Don't do it. -take a slann without temple guard -take saurus and not give them spears -expect to get good composition score at a tournament with 2 stegadons. or more for that matter....
thesecondman, Saurus with spears are really good, but if you can't find the points, HWs are fine, especially as they get you that nice 3+ save. Well, with things considered (and personal preferances AND paranoid second thoughts) here is the list, new and (hopefully) improved. Lords: Slann, re-roll miscast (probably not advised, but i'm more then a little paranoid i'll regret not having this,) +1 PD, whole lore (im thinking light,) divine plaque of protection. 405 points. Heroes: Skink Priest, level 2 Engine Of The Gods, Diadem of power, dispell scroll. 440 points. Skink Chief, Ancient Steg. Steg. War Spear. 380 points (Im thinking he'll be good for charging a unit, getting a massive amount of wonds on them, then making the crumble.) Core: 20 Saurus, spears, musition, standard, spears. 258 points 15 Saurus, musition, standard, spears. 198 popints. 15 Saurus, musition, standard, spears. 198 points. 10 Skink skirmishers. 70 points. 10 Skink skirmishers. 70 points. 14 skink skirmishers. 98 points. Special: 16 Temple Guard, full command, Huanchi's Blessed Totem, venom of the firefly frog. 358 points. (I only put in venom so that i had atleast something that could take on the ethereal's in combat. This was a worry not only because some of their spells make them, or that they are a pretty cool unit but my opponent was talking about using them as a moving screen) Rare 2 Razordons, extra handlers. 160 points. 2503 points. The extra 3 points isn't really a worry as in our game gruop we allow for about a ~10 point extra (its not like that armys will be fighting fair because they're supposed to ) Thoughts? What about the TG? i think venom is possibly not neccesary. And that 14 unit of Skinks if just 'cause i didn't know where else to spend the points, if you have any other thoughts, im happy to hear them.
(Bump) Sorry about that, but the game is today, and i really need some advice on this list. Also, say i wanted to make a 2000 points list for the same purpose (killing vamps) what should i take out? I was thinking Razordons and the Skink Chief.
Take units of 18 Saurus with spears (6x3). Because 5 is the minimum frontage this edition, that frees up 12 strength 4 attacks. Its really really good. It makes it 25 strength 4 attacks in the second round. This will ream undead a new pie-hole. Yes hand weapons are "fine". I prefer 'really good' to 'fine' any day. Especially for only one points per model. PLEASE NOTE - MODELS WITH HAND WEAPONS, SPEARS AND SHIELDS CAN CHOOSE to use hand weapons and shields for the exra armor save (must continue for using same combo for the duration of the combat), but models with just hand weapons and shields cannot choose to use spears and shields ;p. Slann-Cupped hands of the old ones needed badly. 'Re-roll miscast' a waste of points that could be saurus with spears or more temple guard. Plaque of protection unnecessary. Units of skinks blow goats againt undead. Keep them (to be less cheesy), but make them all units of 10. Drop the dispel scroll on the skink priest and give him plaque of tepoc instead. You prolly want 4 more temple guard as well, the banners are not necessary, nor is the venom. Just blow up ethereals with magic. Fire is better against undead. Light, i think you will find, is awesome but too close ranged. Salamanders superior to razordons against undead (and pretty much nobody else). Additional** Creating army lists to meta against certain other races may not be advisable, as you will lack versatility in a real tournament with different races as you opponent.
Well, we're about to have the game so i'll do this. Remove the plaque of protection, TG banner, venom, 4 skinks, dispell scroll, add in enough saurus (with spears ) to make 18, 4 more temple guard (if i've got the points,) and plaque of Tepok, and cupped hands. Maybe i'll even ditch one of the skink units.... Thre may even be a battle report. I finished the list. Even though i'll likley be killed over for this, this is what i got. Lords: Slann,+1 PD, whole lore, Cupped hands. 370 points. Heroes: Skink Priest, level 2 Engine Of The Gods, Diadem of power, plaque of Tepok. 430 points. Skink Chief, Ancient Steg. Steg. War Spear. 380 points Core: 15 Saurus, spears, musition, standard. 198 points 15 Saurus, musician, standard, spears. 198 points. 15 Saurus, musician, standard, spears. 198 points. 15 Saurus, musician, standard, spears. 198 points. Special: 20 Temple Guard, full command, war banner, venom of the firefly frog. 390 points. 2502 Very small, and the venom is back in because i didn't know where else to put the points, but even though its small, i think i may have a chance.... just. Funnily enough, i formed that fourth unit of Saurus because i felt i didn't have enough units (and it seemed skinks would do nothing, so they went) Ummm.... well, this is what im gaming with, feel free to rip me a new one for it.
Really good. That list should pretty much ream undead a new piehole. Take Fire on your Slann UNLESS he has lots of Black knights or Blood knights (lots = 5 blood knights and 10 black knights, or more, basically), in which case take lore of Metal. If so, aim for getting big casts of Spirit of the Forge off on his knight units (no 6. Metal Spell). Make sure your Slann is in line of sight of his vamp if it can be, for cupped hands. If you lose the game, its ok, but you may wish to speak with an experienced player regarding tactical use of troops (vs undead specifically), cos it wont be the composition of your army that is the issue. (Undead can be prickly at the best of times...). I noticed that you've got 4 units of 15. 3 units of 18 will be better for you. This is because your deployment zone won't get randomly choked by blocks (you have 5 big--ish blocks, which can sometimes hinder movement). Additionally, it will free up more point for something else. Those units will still be badass against block of undead. If he's got knights, they are your biggest threat Good luck boss.
incidently, he did take 5 Blood Knights, accompanied by Vamp with blooddrinker... I was worried about the low movement of the amy, but it turned out OK seeing as we had to call it at 3 turns (the 3 person showed up, so we sarted another battle) and seeing as he was kind enough to give standard bearers to the 3 units i killed (2x5 black knights and zombies) with the extra VPs from the standards, i won. 18 Would have been good, if the battle wen't for longer, but if i had of just remembered reform (im still kicking myslef) then his knights would've been toast (possibly the Blood Knights as well, seeing as i almost won the first round of combat due to really bad rolls.) Incidently as well, i did start a tactics thread. But im pretty sure it was mostly neglected, unlike my empire one. Thanks for the wish of luck.
