Note to admin - Wasn't sure if this should go in discussion/army lists/tactics. Please move if you feel its better placed somewhere else.

Playing my son tonight - I've read that in competitions Beastmen get an extra 300 pts, just to explain the points difference.

I'm going to take the following, which is a bit experimental for me:

    Lords:
Slann, Becalming, WD, Channeling staff combo, skavenpelt banner, bsb

    Heroes
2 scarvet cowboys each with GW, one with 1+/4++, the other with 1+/5++ (plus talisman to give one reroll on AS and potion of foolhardiness)
Skink Priest, level 1, beasts, dispel scroll.

    Core
    3 x 10 skink cohorts
    1 x 35 Saurus (HW&S), full command.

    Special
26 Temple Guard, full command, razor standard, and sword to give leader +1 attack. (Slann here - Frenzy giving extra attack and leader with extra attack from magic weapon, I'm hoping predatory fighter works well for me!)
    3 Terradons

    Rare
2 x salamanders each with snack.
Ancient steg with both upgrades (not EoTG though)

My sons list is basically all he can field, and is something oalong these lines:

1 or 2 Great bray shamen
    Beastlord
    2 x doombulls

    2 x 6 minotaurs
    30 ungor raiders (I expect 3 x 10)
    30/40 Gors
    15 bestigors
    5 harpies

I also expect he'll have a lot of magic items to get up to 2800.

My plan is to hang back in one corner with the SW block and TG bunker, while firing off the magic missiles etc.

If possible I'm going to try and turn his larger army so that its fighting up/down the long edge not across it (ie reduces the chances that my smaller army will be flanked)

The other aim is to get as many of the fear/terror causing units to charge / combat asap given beastmen poorer leadership values. If I can rout units off the board early without getting into combat, so much the better.

My chaff hunters should clear his chaff quite easily easily. I then hope to redirect his 2 minobuses using skinks / terradons to set them up for charges by the cowboys/steg/infantry.

Any chaff of mine that remains will go for nuisance work/wizard hunting.

I do however fear/respect the two units of 6 minotaurs, each with a doombull. My plan here is to try to get some wounds (even kill one maybe) with shooting/magic, tarpit for a turn or two with the SW and TG while the cowboys and steg flank charge. I really need to get the charge in first to avoid the impact hits.

All the above is probably beyond me as a player, but at least its a plan, of sorts!

    Thoughts/opinions welcomed.

    Thanks.

Game played but annoyingly ran out of time into T3 as we started late.

But what we played was really good.

My 35 Saurus warriors (took spears instead of HW&S) received a charge from 5 minotaurs plus a doombull (1 mino having been killed from shooting), and lived to tell the tale (Wyssans helped!). Lost 11, but did 9 wounds back and ready to charge them in the flank with remaining TG next turn. That would have left another unit of 6 plus a doombull to deal with, but hey one down (hopefully) one to go...

I say remaining as Slann miscast on 3 dice, and then rolled the small template Strength 10 hit miscast. Bye bye 11 out of 12 TG :depressed:

Have to admit to not remembering the Fear rule very well and went barrelling forward with the Terradons hoping to scare some ungor raiders off the table only to be told that Fear is in combat only not the charge - ooops!

Missed opportunity for me was failing to redirect my steg charge from annoying harpies into Bestigors a few inches behind them.

Unfortunately I wasnt able to get the TG into combat to see how the Frenzy / Razor Banner / Extra attack sword would have worked out.

I did use the two cowboys to hold 2 blocks of 30 gors. Only static res meant that the gors won but the cowboys were going nowhere and were slowly whittling them down. Only thing was in two rounds of combat the damn cold ones didn't hit once - eight dice, no hits :rage:

Definitely going to have a rematch. Have to give credit to my boy, he played very well, and used his harpies brilliantly - Much better than I used my terradons!

sounds like an intresting game, photo's? i would not know what i would do if i came unprepared aganst 2 minotaur units with doombull.

But for your list, i don't know what to drop but an other stegadon with sharpend horns can be usefull i think, maybe a regular steg, becaus the giant bow is intresting against the minos i think, and get the stegs in the flank of those units.
