I have a game tomorrow against a very experienced player. He stuffed me last time. I'm thinking about the following list: Lords Slann, becalming, harmonic, focus, channeling staff. Standard of discipline. Heroes Skink priest, lvl 2, dispel scroll, heavens (ice shard to lower leadership) Cowboy, GW, AofD Cowboy, hw, la, shield, TofP, Luckstone Core 25 SW, full command 2 x 10 skink skirmisher 16 cohort + 2 kroxigor, poison Special Basti, laser Steg, sharpened horns, unstoppable stampede 3 Terradons 20 TG full command Rare Sallie plus snack Sallie plus snack. Only trouble is this is 29pts over. Where can I find these? I think the build of the second scarvet could be better but he's 1+/4++, re rollable once. I could drop the stampede leaving 19 to find..... Dropping Std of Discipline would be another 15..... Is there a better build for the second cowboy at 4pts less? Dropping the Luckstone gives the points. Is this worth it? Thanks for your help.
Always keep the standard, you could add more skirmies to your groups would that suit? Bulk out the cohort? In any case it is up to you, just my suggestions
As an orc player i pasionately hate skink skirmishers and i can only recommend you take more of them. They are perfect for taking out O&G chaff. The biggest weakness in your list IMHO is the Saurus warrior unit. So unless you have a plan for these i would reconsider them, because that is where the (relatively) easy big points are.
I play against OnG quiet a bit too. If I knew his list I could certainly tailor it more against him. As it stands the steg just looks like loose points. If he's a double doom diver double mangler kind of guy it's pretty pointless. you can get a second unit of terras which will help with triggering fanatics and manglers. If he likes big units of trolls the bolas might even be a worthy upgrade (though just 6 dicing convocation is still the main plan there) I'd just throw the armour of fortune on the other cowboy. gets you 1+5++ which is cheaper and still effective. You could even try the LA steg helm/dragonbane gem/iron curse setup. depending on what his artillery normally is. Divers are str5, so wounding on 5's with the helm. Rocklobbers and manglers are still scary though. But if he's shooting your cowboy he's not hitting your blocks. Also GW is still probably just better. Also make your sallies a unit of 2. move 6 and then 6 dice WBW on turn one. 26" will get them in the flank of his savage orc horde(I'm guessing here but there will be something worth hitting) and all of a sudden he has a very very big problem. Make sure you leave room when deploying and deploy them last so you can get the best shot. Can totally break his lines. Did it to DE last week, my god it feels amazing. Does he normally go for 4-5 levels of orc magic? take MR3. Foot is one of the few big spells that you can shut down with MR. So drop the steg, power up the cowboy(or make him a little cheaper) and get MR. I also prefer beasts to heavens. But I'm not sure that's right, I just like making mountain chimeras
Thanks as always - Just been told that theres a change - It will be a 3 way T&T game (I've never played this before) with a 1500 pt limit. Back to the drawing board, but definitely taking these suggestions for the next game versus OnG. With regard to what he plays - I've no idea. I've only played him once and he admitted he was taking a very fluffy army (loads and loads of spiders) but I still got stomped, although I did kill his araknarok thing with buffed saurus (which I thought was a victory in itself!)
haha, the spiders are about as soft as OnG gets My mate is sad because whenever he takes his spider I normally shoot of the first 6 wounds. Though venom surge rolls are pretty amazing. For T&T basti, skink chief LA charmed shield spear egg, scarvet CO GW AoD, saurus block, TG and if you take special characters Tetto is the balls. Killy lords/heroes on foot in your blocks are also really good in T&T. If you are taking allies, look at taking a casket with a lord on foot. It's about a douchey as you can get with allies. Really want to try lots of rippers too, but it's hard to get enough of us together for T&T.
@Madrck - I've just posted my suggested army list, although its slightly different. No Skink chief - Would you mount him on terradon/ripper or on foot? Already got Tetto and Basti. Rest of list is 2 x 10 skink skirms, tooled up oldblood cowboy, scarvet on foot, 24/25 SW (depends on army list - If you take a look at the other post you'll see what I mean), 2 x sallies, 5/6 cold ones (as above re army build) Not taking allies. I know what you mean about spiders being soft in OnG - I deployed badly (I think I was just blown away by the numbers he had - Didn't know what to go for first!), and it pretty much went down hill from there. made a simple mistake of trying stuff too early and it getting killed - eg Chamo skinks shot off T2 I think! Was a very early game for me (I still consider myself a noob, but am learning each game!)
