I've just recently (last 6 months) started up with Fantasy again after a long break. I seem to really enjoy 8th edition, but I haven't been able to settle on any one army so far. Some friends of mine and I are going to start playing regular games and they would like it if I picked one army and stuck with it. So I made a deal on Bartertown and also traded in a sealed Battalion Box of Ogre Kingdoms to my local game store for the Lizardman Battalion. I'm trying to figure out what else I'll need, so I came up with a 2,500 point list. I'll be playing against a regular group, but at least a couple of them are tournament style players. They won't take it to extremes, but they'll definitely be working on building the strongest lists they can. I'll be fighting: Bretonnians, Skaven, and Vampire Counts. Another friend might borrow my Ogre Kingdoms and join in, but he doesn't take it too seriously. So with that in mind, I built the following 2,500 point list: LORDS Slann Mage-Priest - General, BSB, Focused Rumination, Lore of Light Slann Mage-Priest - Becalming Cogitation, Focused Rumination, Lore of Shadow I don't know enough about 8th to know which of the lores work best when you double up like this. I wanted Becalming Cogitation because of the Vampires. It will make him think more about throwing just a couple of dice at one of the resurrection spells, right? HEROES Saurus Scar-Veteran on Cold One - Great Weapon, Light Armor, Dragonhelm, Luckstone, Crown of Command Saurus Scar-Veteran - Light Armor, Shield, Sword of Anti-Heroes, Venom of the Firefly Frog I wanted a cowboy Scar-Vet just because I like the idea. He'll be stubborn, 1+ armor, and Strength 7. Ideally he can just ride around and be a nuisance. The second Scar-Vet goes inside one of the Saurus Units and provides some extra punch. I took the venom because I'm worried about ethereal stuff, but maybe that's just paranoia. CORE 25 Saurus Warriors (Full Command) 20 Saurus Warriors (Full Command) 10 Skink Skirmishers 10 Skink Skirmishers Two nice blocks of Warriors and 2 "throw away" blowgun Skink units. SPECIAL 16 Temple Guard (Full Command) - Standard of Discipline 16 Temple Guard (Full Command) - Banner of Eternal Flame 5 Chameleon Skinks 5 Chameleon Skinks I guess my General would sit in the Discipline unit, giving the unit Cold-Blooded Ld 9 and other nearby units Ld 10. The skinks are there for hunting trebuchets or warp fire cannons. RARE Salamander Salamander So overall I'm pretty happy with the list, but I haven't -ever- played with Lizardmen. I watched one Lizardman game where a dual Slann list fought against a very cheesy WoC Chosen+War Shrine list. All I learned in that game was that it was very boring to watch the Chaos player keep rolling on the Eye of the Gods chart until he got what he wanted. I definitely could use some advice from the experts before picking up any of the stuff that I'm missing. Thanks, Ski
Oh, and an extra question... How do Lizards deal with Terrorgheists? I think the Vampire Counts player is going to be in the habit of taking 2 of them. Thanks again, Ski
I would say use skink skirmishers to deal with the TerrorGheist(s). Chameleons would work for this as well. Against a VC army, there will be no war machines, send the chameleons after those beasts. You may even be able to out maneuver them enough to kite them some.
You're right. The closest he has to a war machine would be the corpse cart and I haven't seen that thing do anything yet. I've just seen those stupid terrorgheists wreck chaos knight units, dryads/treemen, and pretty much everything else. I'll have to find a way to concentrate fire on one at a time or else he'll just gradually heal it back up. Thank you for the help. Ski
