I will be attending a tourney next year using the Rollcall comp (you get +/- scores for taking certain units/ items). Now one of the rulings in the comp pack is that Pred Fighter works from all racks, not just the first. So, combined with the comp penalties on skink clouds and SV Cowboys, I've come up with a list to take advantage of that ruling. As follows: Slann - Ironcurse Icon, Obsidian Trinket, Lore TBC (see below) Oldblood - Arabyan Carpet, Armour of Destiny, GW Scarvet - BSB, Sword of Striking, Potion of Strength, Ench Shield, Luck stone, LA Skink Priest - Dispel Scroll, Level 1 Heavens 30 Saurus - FC 10 Skirmishers 10 Skirmishers 19 Cohort - FC 24 TG - FC, Razor Standard 7 Kroxigor 5 Chamo skinks Troglodon My big dilemma is over what Lore to take. Currently I've got Focus of Mystery on the Slann, but I've never had that much joy using High Magic. I'm worried that it doesn't really cover the gaps in the army list - a long range threat, high strength punch, only one buff spell to help combat. The times I've used it, the swapping spells has had minimal effect. I've used WDs a lot and I do like it, does it offer enough of a threat though, both in terms of combat buffs and long range punch? My other thoughts were to Either go Lore of Light on the Slann and Level 2 Heavens on the Priest OR go all Heavens on the Slann and Level 2 Beasts on the Priest. So, help please chaps. What's going to provide the best mix of combat buffs and long range hard-hitting spells to compliment the above list? Thanks
The more I play it the more I love focus of mystery. Since you want combat buffs I think Light can't be look past with a big unit of krox in the army. Both timewarp and speed of battle turn them into blender lords. The other thing you could look at is life. Gives you anti horde in dwellers, defense in flesh and prob best of all regrowth. Get yourself a Krox ancient (really you should have one anyway) and even If they kill it you can bring it back and use the lore attribute to heal wound off them too. I think you should take becalming cogitation over a scroll. It gives you more reliable dispel over the course of a tourny. Even though it's likely worth a comp you should be taking the channel combo, it's just that bent. Be sure to let us know how the Oldladdin goes with that setup. I've been meaning to try out OB Carpet LA Shield Sword of striking Dragonhelm Dawnstone. He's a 1+ rerollable with 4+ LoS from saurus and skinks.
Thanks for the comments madrck. I think that High Magic really splits people. Some people love it and can use it well, others (like me) just seem to struggle with it. I'm not convinced by Life, it's just too defensive, stopping my guys dying rather than making them hit better. I agree on getting a Krox champ in (I've got a nice model for it and everything) but I'm on bare minimum Core and it's often the only place to save points... The more i think on it, the more i like Level 4 Light, Level 2 heavens. Plenty of options for combat buffs and high strength ranged attacks. As far as Slann loadout goes, is Becalming better? I've got the scroll to stop the 5-6 dice Purple Sun that doesn't get IF. The scroll just seems safer. The Chanelling combo is a comp hit but I'll definitely look at fitting it in. The other option is a Power Scroll for that one turn i need to force a spell through. I've also been thinking about the Oldladdin and whether he brings quite enough for 250+ points. Has anyone tried a flying ScarVet instead? I'm thinking a T5, 3+ save flying scar vet can be used to wipe out opposing chaff and warmachines for about the same cost as a skink chief on terradon. Clearly no ward on him, but i can use the points saved elsewhere. Any thoughts on a flying scarvet?
Power scroll feels soft in our army since we have so many other good arcane choices. Becalming is different. It gives you better dispel over time. Scroll gives you the power to stop that one spell you just have to on top of your other dispels. In combination you can stop just about everything. But you have to find the points for both or choose what you want more. Oldladdin are great little things if you have loose points and not sure what you want to spend them on. Or you just want that hard core chaff war winner. I've never heard of anybody trying a scarvet on a carpet. Give it a whirl and let us all know over at the tactica how it went.
