This is a tournie list I want to try that has a little more speed and shooting than my normal list. SMP - 3 disciplines of rumination, loremaster & cogitation. BSB, flame banner, crown of command, diadem. Lore TBC. Goes in saurus block to give stubborn and flaming attacks. Scar vet on cold one - LA, dawnstone, dragonhelm, GW & venom of FFFrog Priest - scroll caddy Core: 40 Saurus, FC 28 skink + 3 krox, FC (fits 4 x 10 horde) 28 skink + 3 krox, FC 3 units of 10 skinks with musician Special: 2 units of 7 chameleons with champion Rare: 2 units of 2 sallies Points to Ponder: 1) I am debating varying from the standard life and trying something else for the slaan just not sure what. 2) Should I find the points for a second scar vet? Main concern is having something else with magical attacks in the army. 3) Are the 3 units of throw away skinks worth it for the extra deployments? If not, what is a better option? Any and all comments welcomed and appreciated.
SMP: Since the slann is running solo I'd drop lore master to get etheral protection. Flaming Banner not useful when alone. Also since hes solo feel free to try a different lore (miscasts not blowing up TG). I recommend shadow or light. Also try running one of the Skrox units in 6x6, I find it more mobile and with the musician you can always reform wide for javelin shots. (save the points and drop the champions in skrox, serves no real purpose) Chamo Skinks same, drop the champions you want to be hitting on 6's so the extra BS isn't worth the points. Drop one unit of skirmishers and you should enough points for a a scarvet (I'd suggest burning blade of cheotec, so you have some flaming.magic attacks)
Why would you want horde formation for your skrox units? You get the krox attacks in a narrower formation, all horde formation does is screws up any chance of getting steadfast and gives you a few WS2 S3 attacks... Why champion on cammos? You will very rarely have any use for him. Why no protection on Slann? No ethereal, no PoP, no MR. no TGs. A good LM player could keep a fairly unprotected Slann alive without any of those things against most opponents but every now and then a random catapult / cannon comes along and 1-shots him... For this list Life seems to be the obvious choice, but if you want something fun I recommend Death, as it is both fun and very effective. Light doesn't go very well with the list, nor does shadow. I guess Fire could be interesting but not a very competitive choice. Imo yes. I don't see the caddy as very necessary, that scroll is very expensive and with diadem and cogitation you have the magic defence covered. I'd go for cupped hands and drop the priest. You could also just reduce your unit sizes a little if you want more pts to play around with, Saurus works well in units of 25 and 30 and Skrox units has no need for horde formation. They are excellent harassers and diverters, that alone makes them worth their points. Personally I'd scrape together 20-60 pts somewhere and upgrade 1-3 of them to skirmishers.
My issue with death is the range. If the SMP is an inch behind the saurus block who 4-5 inches long. Your targets have to be in combat with the saurus or less than 6 inches away from the saurus block.
Both Caress and Spirit leech has 24" range when boosted, which is more than enough. They are at 10+ and 12+ to cast when boosted so with Rumination you can even 1-dice Leech with a good success rate and 2-dice any of them easily. The only short range spell is Fate of Bajuuna .
Thanks to everyone for the comments and ideas. Just a few points on the list: 1) The SMP usually goes in the saurus to give them flaming attacks and stubborn. I don't run him solo but the solo ethereal idea does sound intriguing. 2) Skrox - my movement trays are built for a horde of 20mm based models. I just never thought about fielding the skrox 6x6 which makes a lot more sense in most cases. As Homer Simpson would say, "doh!!"
If you want to run your slann in the saurus then you should get a scarvet for sure, then the slann can sit in the second rank. SV X Mu Std Cha X SMP SMP X X X SMP SMP X X X X X X X
