So I'm off to my first comp in many years (arrival of the kids and other hobbies halted the game play ) but the models and dice have been dusted off and I'm off to Escalation next month No new monsters as I don't have the spare cash to buy any so I'm using what I already have. I'm yet to name the rest of my characters but my drunken Slann Atipletomeni is out of the drunk tank (spawning pool(flight case)) and making his way to the field of battle. To try and shake off the rest of his hangover by crushing anyone who tries to get in his way. 2500pts of 2500pts Lords (360pts) Atipletomeni Slann Mage-Priest Ironcurse Icon, Soul of Stone, Wandering Deliberations Heroes (498pts) Scar Veteran Battle Standard Bearer, Charmed Shield, Shrieking Blade,Talisman of Endurance, Light Armour Scar Veteran Glittering Scales, Seed of Rebirth, Sword of Striking, Shield Skink Chief The Egg of Quango, Dragonbane Gem, Enchanted Shield, Spear, light armour, Terradon Skink Chief Dragonhelm, Spear, Shield, Terradon Core (841pts) 25x Saurus Warriors Full command 25x Saurus Warriors Full command 11x Skink Skirmisher Javelin and Shield 11x Skink Skirmisher Javelin and Shield 11x Skink Skirmisher Javelin and Shield Special (633pts) 6x Chameleon Skinks 3x Kroxigor 3x Kroxigor 3x Kroxigor 3x Terradon Riders Rare (168pts) 1x Salamander Hunting Pack Additional Handlers 1x Salamander Hunting Pack Additional Handlers So the general plan is for Atipletomeni to be held up by (placed in) a unit of saurus with the BSB. An for him to cause general mayhem with all those signiture spells. The other scar-vet will be in the other unit of saurus. Flanked by 2 units of kroxi's. The other unit of Kroxi's will be able to protect either of flanks as will the salamanders. Skinks are for redirecting and for taking out fast cav and other annoying units (loving the 5+, 6++ save and quick to fire with those javalins). The 2 Skink chiefs will fly solo to go lone character, light infantry and arty hunting, along with the Terradons and the Chameleon skinks. Well that's my plan But what do you guys think? All comments good and bad welcomed cheers CB Gaz Please don't post individual points costs for units. Thanks.
A Slann BSB can have magic items and a magic banner. A Scar-vet BSB can either have magic items or a magic banner. His BSB does not have a magic banner and is therefore legal. As for the list. I would consider putting the Kroxigors into one unit of 8 or 9. I think that units of 3 are too small. I would also consider getting a dispel scroll for your Slann. Most people consider it a must-include item these days, although you may have dropped it for comp reasons.
The good news is that this is easily remedied in the list simply by making the slaan your BSB rather than the SV if you decide to take a magic banner like +1 LD. For the list itself, it looks solid so I would make just a few minor tweaks as follows: 1) Give the SV the dragonhelm and the skink chief the charmed shield. The SV really doesn't need to avoid a single hit and the +1 to AS will help whereas the chief can get cannon sniped. 2) I would look at giving the chiefs cheap magic weapons (5 or 10 pointers) in lieu of spears. Spears are only good on the charge and this will give some flexibility if you end up facing ethereals. 3) Keep in mind that with 8th edition, the skink chiefs cannot join the terradon unit. However, they can temporarily attach themselves to saurus or krox to avoid/minimize any ballistic skill based shooting. [Yes, I know this is completely illogical but heh, it is fantasy after-all ]
I don't recommend this, If some one is shooting at your 100 point chief with a cannon, go for it! And in all likelyhood, any good general will hit you with some ballistic skill shooting first to remove any charmed shield The dragonhelm is too important for the chief to drop Without it Searing doom will kill it in one shot A fireball has a good chance of killing it A boosted fireball will it in one shot Shems burning gaze will kill it These chaff clearing spells are a skink chiefs biggest weakness being only T3 so it is important to give him the 2+ ward against flaming. I would give him light armour to make it a 2+ but with a charmed shield that is a 4+ or a 3+ if he gets LA
Thanks for your comments and advice. The good and the not so good. There is no comp at the torny so scrolls are allowed. I hadn't thought about facing ethereal units. So giving the chiefs cheap magical weapons is a good idea thanks. As for the big unit of Kroxigor, I have never fielded a unit with more than 4 krox in it. I normally run them in units of 3 in a 2-1 formation. Nice and small frontage to fit through gaps and normally drop at least 1 or 2 enemy models from combat while still getting all my attacks. But the idea of fielding a unit of 6 with a unit of 3 is something I'm going to try this week. I like the idea of 18 s7 attacks with pf. Should leave a hole if all goes well. So the list is virtual the same as before and looks like this: 2499pts of 2500pts Lords (385pts) Atipletomeni Slann Mage-Priest Ironcurse Icon, Soul of Stone, Wandering Deliberations, Dispel scroll Heroes (510pts) Scar Veteran Battle Standard Bearer, Charmed Shield, Shrieking Blade,Talisman of Endurance, Light Armour Scar Veteran Glittering Scales, Seed of Rebirth, Sword of Striking, Shield Skink Chief The Egg of Quango, Dragonbane Gem, Enchanted Shield, Tormentor sword, Javelin, light armour, Terradon Skink Chief Dragonhelm, Shield, light armour, Warrior bane, Javelin, Terradon Core (820pts) 25x Saurus Warriors Full command 25x Saurus Warriors Full command 10x Skink Skirmisher Javelin and Shield 10x Skink Skirmisher Javelin and Shield 10x Skink Skirmisher Javelin and Shield Special (620pts) 5x Chameleon Skinks 3x Kroxigor 6x Kroxigor 3x Terradon Riders Rare (164pts) 1x Salamander Hunting Pack Additional Handlers 1x Salamander Hunting Pack As always all comments are welcomed Cheers Cb Gaz
