8th Ed. 2500pts LM List Advice!

    Ok guys I ran this list last week against my friends beastmen I ended up getting slaughtered. the only unit that really held its ground was my temple guard with slann. also my saurus units got hammered big time I'm just not sure what went wrong. Heres the list I brought

    He Ran Something Like

    Lvl 4

    a bunch of weak mages around the herd stone
    a few killy characters and a BSB

    40x gors 2x hand weapons
    40x bestigors
    25 or 30 ungors
    some chariots
    some razorgors
    some ungor raiders I can't remember his whole list but its brutal I have never beaten him lol any recommendations? His gors and bestigors got into combat with bot my saurus blocks killed them both off then the bestigors killed off my temple guard after a few rounds of bloody combat I wasn't able to get throne of vines off once as he dispelled it almost every time then dispell scrolled it once lol

    Not sure why your friend keeps beating you but it looks like he has several horde units. I find the best way to deal with hordes is to just...not. Avoid them. If he sets one up on a flank, set your guys on the other side. Use your skirmishers to redirect his unit (remember chargers align to the charged so set your skirms at an inconvenient angle). Use shooting and magic to whittle down those hordes before you engage them. Salamanders are especially good for this purpose with a shot across their flank to hit gobs of them. See if you can drop some stuff to pick up another unit of sallies.

    Get rid of the skink cohort, it is a waste of points without kroxigor in them. Hide your priest in a skirmisher unit or even with a saurus unit.

    Also maybe get another unit of chameleons (size both units as 5-6 chams) or better yet terradons to hunt the solo mages around his herdstone (use points from dropped cohort). Make sure to drop rocks while flying overhead.

    Drop Cogitation from your slann. There is no point really when he has a whole bunch of weak mages, he'll just use a mage that isn't affected. It's only really good against an uber mage (lvl 3-4) as he'll be casting more spells and thus more likely to be affected by it. Get another magic item like forbidden rod to help your magic phase or blood statuette to try and snipe a character.

    I would dump the skink priest and use that 100 points to add in more chameleons. Drop cogitation and cupped hands and take the cube of darkness or a dispel scroll. I would also dump the carnosaur pendant and the great weapon and add in maybe the +2 attack sword. Frenzy is nice but if he charges out on his own there goes 150 odd points.

    From there dump the cohorts and use the points to get another 2x sally group. Sally's are you friend against beastmen. 1 wound = panic test. Low leadership = bye bye.

    Also scout your chameleons so they can start picking off any priest that wants to stay within 6" of the herdstone by themselves.

    Other than that just make sure you slann has throne up all game long, and keep flesh to stone on whatever block is going to be fighting the horde and regen up on the TG unit.

    Deploy away from him and make him cross the whole board to get you. He has to put his herdstone down first so put yourself around 30" away from that and his wizards will have to move outside its range to throw spells at you.
