Decides to put up my list for an upcoming tournament (June 28th). Fairly standard without too many rules: * Various legions allowed. * only 25% characters. * vanilla magic rules. * special characters allowed. The tournament will be held in the local doll store and will not be ultra competitive. The List : Slann with channel combo and reroll one failed dispel attempt, lore of metal. Oldblood with great weapon, cold one, Dawnstone and armour of Destiny. Tetto'eko Scar vet BSB with 4+ ward talisman, charmed shield, spear, cold one. 40 saurus, full command, swords. 2 Skink skirmishers. 1 skink cohort. 30 templeguards, Full command. 7 cold one riders, full command and spears. 2 units of cameleon skinks. So.. Metal is a bit new for me, but I'm confident that it'll supplement my saurus warriors very well. Some of the spells are situational, but this is where tetto'eko comes into play. I really like lore of heaven and with his rerolling 1s I can still cause trouble against Lvl 4 mages. I think tetto'eko allow the slann to be a bit more experimental. Tetto have a lot of hard hitting spells and personally in not a fan of the unit destroying spells Such as purple sun. The only thing that minds worries me is if I have enough skinks.
I'll do the following changes. Oldblood with Talisman of 4++ Scarvet with armour of destiny ++ Now both can wield great weapon. With this list I can't see the benefit of metal, you already have tools to deal with 1+ AS. I would go for high magic 100% With Tetto'eko you'll ensure to cast many spells with low dices. Also you have all heavens spells who are good for hex/buff/damage. And you really want Arcane Unforging & Hand of Glory. While trading 1 go spells like Walk Between Worlds your vanguarded cold one bus. Tempest on tarpits or Fiery Convocation on Huge infantry. You tailor at your needs and you wont regret having a useless lore/spell for any matchup. The only match up where High Magic seems weak is against 1+ Armour which in turn 2 you can have acces to searing doom.
The reason my OB have armour of Destiny is because I want him to field the Dawnstone as well. With that I can perfectly well neutralize a bunch of nastiness all by himself, such as a doombull. Otherwise I'd rather take 2x scar vets since I'm not utilizing the extra magic item allowance anyway. I think I'll mess around with high magic and lore of metaland see what suits me. IMO getting plague of rust off just once on any heavily armoured unit will mean that the saurus warriors now have s much better chance against them. The augment spell give +1 To Hit and armour piercing and is highly valuable the way I see it, since most of our units suffer from having lots of attacks that doesn't quite hit. Hand of glory doesn't ensure that, but have the benefit that if you get a decent roll it's also defensive. Personally I'm not too much into high magic. Never liked it tb, but I can definitely see the utility. Mostly though I really want to try out lore of metal. It's not bad by any mean, it's just that there are better lores. Anyway I'll try and mess around with your suggestions and see how it goes and then I'll decide for the tournament. Unfortunately the previous tournament allowed for 50% lords. Why it doesn't now is kinda strange, but it would've made certain things better for my list. Thanks for your suggestions though =]
I see the utility of metal. METAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL \m/ d0,0b \m/ But you are not guarantee to get all what you need. Only 4 spells. There will be matches where taking the signature (and gehenna's hounds) will be useless. I see this lore to much oriented against Empire or Warriors of Chaos. Also your only answer against avoidance msu list is Tettto'ekko. As metal will not harm enough light cavalry. Also it can hurt the DE Pegasus spam, but surely they'll bring 2++ against flaming. Knowing that your lvl4 is combat oriented, the only threat you could toss against them is tetto. Your bunker will be shot as hell, Tetto is subpar against lvl4 wizards. And finally they will hunt them. Risky Risky..
In all honesty I don't think I'll see an MSU avoidance list and I'm not sure my bunker will be shot to hell, but maybe it's because I haven't been playing a whole lot for quite some time xD
I think my list is a result of our meta. Sure there are some nasty builds, but most of the players don't power build. I think you're assuming that I'll go up against some very tough sh1t. I'm not doubting there'll be quite the competition, but not the ultra hardcore you are assuming. Is it risky? well yeah I suppose so. You do bring up some valid points, so I'll obviously bring those into consideration
