I just got the new book and some models this is what I am thinking for a 2000 point list. I think this list should work out well I plan to move it all up together and as I get close start shooting and then assaulting things. I plan to use the 2 groups of skinks to screen my temple guard and Warriors. No skink characters means everything but the stegadon will need to attempt to overrun things, but I can live with that. Slann - Life or High (not sure yet) ----------------- Scar Veteran - Light Armor - Enchanted Shield - Piranha Blade - Potion of Speed -Carnasaur - Swooping Stride ----------------- Temple Guard - 30 Models - Full Command ----------------- Saurus Warriors - 30 Models - Full Command ----------------- Bastiladon - Solar Engine ----------------- Ancient Stegadon ----------------- Skink Skirmishers - 10 Models - blowpipes ----------------- Skink Skirmishers - 10 Models - blowpipes -----------------
Running life without loremaster can lead to some nasty spell misses. The lore is perfect when you can cast all the spells, but it seriously lacks in synergy when you can't. High magic is just solid, I'd also run it here. I'd like to see some more skinks in the list! You're very very light on support units. M4 infantry blocks can be blocked, diverted and rerouted with relative ease. I fully understand you want to try out the carnosaur; but IMHO it's the beast that can go. Get some terradons, chameleons or even ripperdactyls in there to kill opposing light troops and harass your opponent. Anyway, as the list stands it is just a solid wall of Saurus and monstesrs, which is still quite good (and fun!). Hope this helps you, but as always; thinking twice about some units is never a bad thing, in the end; you make the call. The Hunted
The SV build has too many magic items - the weapon alone eats up all the magic points allocation. Even if that is fixed however, I don't think carnie is anywhere near worth the points investment since it will in all likelihood die before seeing combat. If you are keen on trying some of the new stuff in the book, perhaps put the SV on foot with the steggie helm & GW and use the extra points to add a level 2 beast skink priest. That will still leave well over 100 points for chaff or even enough to give rippers a try. Speaking of chaff, with the free upgrade to javelin & shield, I think the skirmishers would be better off replacing their blowpipes. Javelins hit way more often and the QTF rule and 5+ AS means the skirmishers might even be able to survive a bit of hand to hand with some other chaff. Also, when combined with wissan's wildform, the javelins get boosted to S4 shooting!
Nobody in my area really fields much for war machines, I really dislike skinks so I am only bringing a couple of squads of them, I wont be bringing many more than I am already. The skinks never make up their points for me and generally just get shot and die to fast for them to accomplish anything other than giving away points to the opponent. I will not be picking up any riperdactyls as there are very few light troops to kill in my area that they would get in range of before dieing. Made a couple changes as I had the points a bit off(thought the sword I had was 10 points cheaper) in my first post, I added harmonic convergence to the Slann and changed the sword to the golden sigil sword and got rid of the potion. I am still definitely liking life to keep many of the things alive in my list.
