(my center) (right flank) I hooked up with a buddy and club member for a recent game. I brought my Lizardmen for my first game using their new rules. My opponent brought a Dark Elf list. I took a couple of photos of the game with the intention of writing a full battle report of the game. But, I got so caught up in the game in about the third turn I forgot all about the photos. Besides, I’m not a very good battle report writer. I brought a force with two Saurus infantry blocks backed by a Skink Priest with an Engine of the Gods. My general was an Oldblood on a Carnosaur. Some skink skirmishers with a unit of Terradons and two Razordon Hunting Packs rounded out my list. From Memory, he had two units of Dark Riders, a unit of harpies and ten CO Knights, two CO chariots, a big infantry block of spearmen, and a block of Executioners led by a death hag. He had his general and sorceress on elven steeds. The first half of the game went my way, and I thought I was in pretty good shape. Early combat of the game I was able to destroy the Druchii harpies with my terradons, and my Oldblood wiped out a unit of Dark Riders. My two razordons wiped a second unit of dark riders with their shooting. (wiped out the harpies) (oldblood had them for lunch) I made my first of three critical mistakes of the game in the third round. I misjudged the charge distance of my saurus infantry block. I tried to get a triple charge on the cold one pack with my saurus, razordons, and terradons. My saurus warriors fell short and I only had combat with the hunting pack and terradons. They lost the combat and my terradons feld. The hunting pack stayed and tied up the unit for a while, but I lost their shooting ability for the rest of the game. My opponent was able to get his Executioners in battle with one of my Saurus blocks, with a Scar-vet, and I lost. They fled through my Engine of the Gods, which caused that to panic, despite both units being cold blooded. His executioners ran down my saurus, and they were in a perfect position to charge my EotG after it rallied. Along with his general, they dual charged and won combat. The engine fled off the table. The second mistake I made was not using the impact wounds of the engine for a dual charge on his executioners with my saurus block. (the end of the EotG) My second block of saurus beat his spearmen in combat and they fled. Gosh darn slow reptiles could not run down those pesky elves though. By one inch I missed the roll. They did run far enough though for a charge by my oldblood. The third mistake I made was dual charging the spearmen with the oldblood and the saurus block. I won combat, but my saurus had the larger unit strength so the spearmen run away from them. If I would have charged with the oldblood only, there was a good chance I could have ran down the infantry based spearmen and over run into his remaining cold one knights (the razordons managed to kill three of them). If I could have won both combats, that would have been a larger point total for me. As it stood after six rounds, I lost with a minor victory going to the Darl Elves. Again it was a very fun game and we both laughed and joked through out the entire time. I really like what GW did with saurus warriors; they are a very tough infantry unit when armed with spears. I really should have dual charged with the EotG and I think I would have won the combat with the Executioners. I won’t be in a hurry next time to get my razordons in combat. They did so well with their shooting I think that is where their strength lies. Hope you enjoyed the read and some of the photos.
Very nice report mate. I'm sure you have more talent at writing battle reports than you give yourself credit for. Pictures too were a nice touch, shame you got so wrapped up in the game to take more Looking forward to reading more in the future
Great battle. Do you think you could post some pics of your army sometimes? That custom EotG looks really cool, and the Saurus champion as well.
At some point I will. I have to update my army photos, hell Ihave to update my army in general. That had been pointed out to me a couple of days after our game. That would have allowed me to charge his Executioners with the EotG, possibly breaking them, and not letting his general dual charge the Engine. <sigh> oh well, play and learn.
afternoon all, just being nosey how you made that scar veteran with the axe, from the pic i seen it looked amazing!!
