    OK, kind of pushing the limit with 2k but have a look and tell me what you think;

Oldblood + Carnosaur + Great Weapon + Dawnstone + Armour of destiny
Barebones general, but still a killing machine

Level 2 Skink Priest (Beasts) + Dispel scroll

    Level 1 Skink Priest (Beasts)
    Coome ooon, Transformation of Kadon

    2 x 10 skink skirmishers

    20 Saurus + full command

    10 Saurus
I like running a little side unit of saurus next to 20 to maximise on PF

    Bastiladon + Solar Cannon

    Stegadon + Unstoppable Stampede

    3 Ripperdactyls

    1 Salamander + Snack

Ancient Stegadon + Engine of the Gods + Unstoppable Stampede

If my math is good it comes out at exactly 2000 points. 4 thunderstomp-able units in the army! Enough to do in an average magic phase (even if likely to be snuffed by a lvl 4). 8 drops in placement.

Thoughts? Too stretched? Would it work?

It depends on what you are going up against.
Empire for example would most likely give you a hard time, but against the right opponents it probably could work.

An important factor will of course be how you play it.

Personally I would drop the unstoppable stampede, It only gives a single attack on the charge and it costs 10 points, as I see it: Not worth it. If you drop unstoppable stampede on both stegadons, you could upgrade the ancient with sharpened horns?

Wood elves, high elves and vampire counts, mostly. So no chance of cannons!

The unstoppable stampede was a last minute addition, sharpened horns is clearly better!

Play will be triumph and treachery 3 player, so I'll be starting 12" away from the enemy. Probably placing all monsters in a line 1" apart and hoping for a MASSIVE turn 1 charge against a single unit. And even if the opponent makes the charge, they'll be in base contact with at least 2 beasties so looking at 2D6 thunderstomp!

It is great not facing any cannons when doing a monster army :D

You could consider, if you can find the points, to give the Carnosaur Bloodroar, it could come in handy either getting the enemies to flee an potentially run them down (you could get swiftstride for that). You will have a better chance at scaring those warmbloods in battle, making them WS 1, which could greatly improve your monsters stayingpower.

If the lv 1 Skink Priest is just to get transformation of kadon (and you are not playing end times magic), maybe you should skip him, and go for something else, or take heavens, the elves could have some flying units, which the attribute of heavens might help with.

Just be careful, even with no cannons elves can shoot our monsters off the table. The quality of quantity.
