OK, so have my first game against the new Orc army book on Monday and need some help with the army list. It's my opponants first game with hte new book too so he's already told me he'll be taking a "standard" army as opposed to a power army so that he can try the things out himself. I also know he doesn;t have the giant spider yet, but does have most pretty much everything else. So here is the list I've come up with, any thoughts and suggestions would be very much welcome. LORDS Life Slann with 3 disciplines Focus of Mystery – know all spells The Focused Rumination – free power dice per spell The Becalming Cogitation – 1 enemy mage ignores rolls of "6" Battle Standard Bearer Power Scroll (1 use) – any double causes irresistable force (and miscast) Forbidden Rod (1 use) - +d6 dice to power pool but causes D3 wounds Itxi Grubs (1 use) - +3 to cast roll, can be used after rolling to cast HEROES Scar Vet + Light Armour + Shield Sword of the Hornet - Always Strike First CORE 30 Saurus Warrior – CSM 20 Skinks 20 Skinks SPECIAL 25 Temple Guard + CSM (Slann and Scar Vet in this unit) War Banner 5 Cham Skinks 5 Cham Skinks RARE 3 Sals + Extra Handlers
Get the enchanted sheild for your scar-vet, it's only 2 points then a normal sherild but it increases your armour save by 2.
Remember your Slann can only have 1 arcane item so your lord is illegally decked out w/ both Rod and Power Scroll (and Ixti grubs, they're considered arcane too right? I can't remember offhand, even if they aren't, they are not worth the 25 points 99% of the time). Other than that, I'd say split the Salamanders into a group of 2 and a 1. For the skinks are you using skirmishers or reg jav and shield? If jav and shield, I'd drop one of the groups in favor of another unit of Saurus, you can make up the additional points by dropping some TG, a life Slann really only needs 16-20 imo (16 if you go 5 wide, 20 if you go 6 wide). Your sallies and chamo skinks should be the deciding factor in the game. Mess up his artillery and drop big flame templates on his goblin/orc hordes.
Ah yeah, good point, I forgot that. Or maybe just take 2?, freeing up a few points Was gonna run them standard jav + shield, but I might go skirmish since I'll be freeing up a few points. I know my opponant likes to throw alot of the TG which is why I like to take a large number if I can. That is the plan, it's just making sure the rest of the army can take on whats left.
Pg. 500 of the BRB: "If a magic item is listed both here and in your WH armies book, use the pts value printed in the latter [...]". Yep, it sure sucks.
