Hey everyone, me and 7 friends are running a tournament for fun, mocking rights and a small prize. We are casual players (never been to big tournaments) but all of us bring the hardest lists possible, and play to win. So I need to make a list that can compete. Participants are: 2 X HE 1 X Empire 1 X WE 1 X Vamps 1 X Dwarves 1 X OnG Looking at the meta, I see T3, gunlines (WE, Empire, OnG, dvarves and possibly 1 HE), also steamtank and two phoenixes that will have to be adressed, the empire player allways brings +1 AS en mass. So, to handle "gunlines" I will probably need 1-2 chamo units and I like the Vanguard from tetto. The armies mostely being T3 means Salamanders will probably be amazing. Magicwise I think Tetto is too good not to bring, and the question is if a Slann will be worth it? Cowboys are amazing in this meta, so I think I need at least two (OB & Scarvet) but three might be worth it. Skirmishers are allways good, but with only the phoenixes being yummi targets, maybe it's time to bring the saurus infantry? Bastilladon could be good as well,, same as Salamanders. The list I have made so far is: OB on CO with Armour of Destiny and Dawnstone, GW ofc. OB on CO with GW, Dragon helm and talisman of preservation. Scarvet on CO with Stegadon helm, Dragonbane gem, Potion of foolhardiness/luckstone and GW (also BSB) Tetto Skink Priest w. Cube 10 skirmishers (need more?) 24 Saurus Wars with full command(normally hate theese, but I don't want to use all my specials on TG and I need an anvilish unit, for White Lions, Halbadeirs etc.) 15 Skink cohort full command to bunker Tetto 10 Skink Cohort with full comand.delivery system if I need to push Cowboys forward with Tettos vanguard) 6 Chamoes (warmachine hunting and Vanguard blocking) 5 coldone riders with full command and spears (Delivery for cowboys if cannons, if not flank harrasing and chaff removal) 2 X 1 salamander with snack (nom nom nom T3 nom nom nom) 3 Terradon riders - chaff, WM hunting and such. This looks solid, but here are my worries: Loosing magic phase without a slann. Being able to handle Elite units suchs as Demi's, White Lions with banner and such. Am I missing anything, any advice. /Jacob - looking to obring the Lizards to wictory!
Should be hard to deal with depending on what your opponent has. Only having +2 for your dispelling rolls at 2000 points might be a problem, though offensively I think Tetto'ekko should provide what you need. I do see a couple of weaknesses in this style of army however. 1. You don't have a great deal of attacks, impact hits or stomps all told, though what you have is quality you might suffer against numerous armies. 2. Units with Killing blow, Okkams, Screams and that sort of thing might counter your mounted characters. I don't think Demigryphs are going to be hard for you to handle however, this is where the Old-Bloods and Scar-Vets shine. As for the details of the list, I would prefer a regular Dispel Scroll over the Cube on your Priest, its more reliable and less ambiguous in its use. I would also go with another unit of Skirmishers over your 2nd Cohort unit, as you can simply use your Cold Ones for the Vanguard thing.
I would give your one Oldblood the Piranha blade + potion of strength + Charmed shield. Takes care of Demi's, Trolls, STanks and characters in challenges really well.
Thanks for the ideas, I will run through my thoughts here: Agreed, but only solution in our (silly) book is the Slann, and I don't think it's worth it. I feel the only monster viable theese days are the Basti. Stegs and Ancients are overprieced and imo not worth it (sadly). So for stomps I should make space for the Basti, but is that a better option than what is there now? Could remove Terradons + something, but not sure, any ideas? and We are playing open lists, so I will know where the KB's are and should be able to place the chars in somewhat safety. I like the agressive OB build, but in an open list they will know it as well. Is it still worth it even with the loss of survivability - I was hoping the cowboys could handle that stuff allready? /Jacob
