Well first off I won, thank you all for your advice. now let me see if I can write a play by play this is my first battle report. First army lists(minus items for space) my army: Slann, Scar vet on cold one, skink priest on eotg. core: 2 squads of 10 skink skirms, 1 squad of 20 saurus with spears standard and musician. special: 5 cold one riders with musician, 14 temple guard full command and 3 terradons his army: a vampire lord, 2 vampires, and a wight king after this I am not sure what is what so will jsut list a bit more then 8 black knights, 2 squads of ghouls, a squad of skellies, a lone corpse cart a varghulf, a black coach and a squad of 5-6 dire wolves. his army was more strigoi in nature had the power to enhance crypt ghouls. now onto the battle report. battle report: We setup table halves my saurus were center front and temple guard right behind them, the steg was to the right with skinks flanking it, to the left the cold ones terradons and another squad of skinks. The undead foot soldiers were all setup shoulder to shoulder(pretty much) with the corpse cart, and on the side that my cold ones were on he setup the black coach, the black knights, dire wolves, and varghulf. First casualty was my terradons I feigned flight to bait the varghulf and the terradons didn't rally and flew off the table. But the suicidal award goes to my skink on eotg...who miscast and snakeyed on the miscast, but luckily that was after the eotg did it's damage(combined with lore of light) after the terradons ran the skinks were left to fend off the varghulf and dire wolves alone, the wiped out the wolves did a wound to the varghulf and held in cc for more then a turn. During the first charge that the enemy performed with his full force it actually looked bad, alot of wounds dead saurus and break tests(yay ld9) the temple guard got hit by the black knights while the saurus got hit by both ghoul squads(skellies hung back with the lord/general) luckily this put them right in line for both burning alignment and cleansing flame(wish both were burning). After surviving the initial onslaught my cold ones charged the flank of the black knights and over time i whittled own their forces to almost nothing. It was then when one of the vampires ghoul squads was down to 1 ghoul and a vamp that my skink miscast and was eaten by tzeentch. so next turn I finished them off by ramming them with the steg. Around this time the carghuld AND the black coach charged my cold one cav whiped them out and overran into my temple guard who finished off the varghulf. At the end of the battle it was the black coach and the skellie and lord vs my temple guard my saurus and my steg. So after that he called the game. main mistakes I made(other then the miscast.) I kept forgetting to use the plaque of dominion and becalming cogitation.
My biggest mistake I do almost every game is that I completely forget about any stegadon's or carnosaur's terror... I play VC alot and they don't need to take it, so when I play non-VC I still forget to make people roll for terror if I'm within 6"... It sucks forgetting stuff like that, next game I'm writing on the back of both my hands!!! Lol TERROR TERROR
I hear ya. I play VC or WoC armies with Slaneesh or Khorne add-ons alot so I'm not used to saying, "Take your terror test man, my giant cow is scaring you."
the only non-ITP army i play is DE and he usually reminds me of the terror by saying things like "how can that thing, wich is a bit taller than an elf, cause terror?" seriously.... i expected the stegadon model to be taller, at least as big as a hydra.... i don't understand how it can cause even fear...
What are some good tactics vs. vamps in general? That's mostly what I'll be playing in the coming months, so a little tactica might give me a boost
If you've assembled your steg with an open mouth, just look at it from the front and imagine it 100 times larger. There's your terror.
