Hello. I'm going to a tournament in a couple of weeks. Below are two lists I have made, but I can't decide whicj to use. The main force of both lists are the same, but with some differences, and different magic lores. List 1: slann/ mystery, rumination, cogitation, cupped hands, bsb (LIFE) veteran, la, shield, burning blade skink priest/ scroll 15 saurus, banner, muso 15 saurus, banner muso 10 skirmish 10 skirmish 10 skirmish 10 skinks 4 kroxigors 16 temple guards, FC, huanchi 3 terradon stegadon 5 chameleon skinks 2 salamanders 2 salamanders List 2: Slann/mystery, rumination, cogitation, cupped hands, bane head (DEATH) veteran, la shield, burning blade skink priest, scroll 10 skirmish blowpipes 10 skirmish blowpipes 10 skirmish blowpipes 10 skirmish javelins 15 saurus, banner, muso 15 saurus, banner, muso 6 chameleon skinks 6 chameleon skinks 6 chameleon skinks 3 terradons 3 terradons 16 temple guards, FC, huanchi 3 kroxigors 2 salamanders 2 salamanders What do you think? Any suggestions for improvements?
List 1 IMO. Mainly because I like Lore of Life. Chameleon skinks are awesome too though... But I will respond to list 1. Seems a waste of points to me. If you really want flaming attacks the Banner of Eternal Flame is much better. Personally I think combat characters are crap in 8th (too vunlerable). I would try and get more out of this guy or drop him completely. The Slann could have carried a scroll afterall. Level 2 and Plaque of Tepok? I'm not sold of monstrous infantry at all in this edition. Even though I used to love Kroxigors. Eh... Should whack a magic item onto the champ. You can always regrowth him if he dies anyway. I like Gold Sigil Sword. IMO shold be points into Chameleons.
Hmm. The Slann can't take a scroll since he's already carrying an arcane item (cupped hands) I could drop the burning blade on the scar-vet, give him golden sigil sword and the slann flaming banner. I feel I need a counter to Hydras/Abominations.
I agree with kroxigor01. The Scar vet is a waste of points. As for the skink Priest... Is a scoll caddy so keep it cheap! I found out that Saurus are best used in big unit, at least 25/30. Their low I, will hurt them a lot! In this case, you could put a Scar Vet with HA and GW with them...just for the extra "punch". 10 Skink Skirmisher are good, but 10 ranked skinks?...They are useless! Drop them or bulk it to (at least) 22+2 Kroxigors, if you really want to use them! Blowpipes or Javelins...is up to you. Terradons are OK. Chamalerons are pretty good in the new edition. I always use 2x6 Chameleons and 3 Terradons in 2250. Kroxigors...at first, I liked them..but for me, they revealed to be multiwound saurus! If you want to use them "solo" I would bulk them to 6, in a 3x3 formation = 18xS6 attacks + 3 S4 stomp attack...but ASL and T4 S4 will hurt. A solo Stegadon (Baby/Ancient/EOG) will die quickly...(you'll be surprised how quick) against a gun line! LOL I use 2 Reg Stegadons and they do the work. Temple Guard is OK. I prefer to use 20 and War Banner or Sun Standard...maybe Razor Banner. I like the 2x2 Sallamander! Overall, I prefer the 2nd list. I hope it helps!
the veteran can be useful, but give him the sword of hornet instead (ASF). I think the 10 ranked skinks are a viable choice as well - can be used as a throw away unit, can do some poisoned shooting with their javelins, can march block (although this is less efficient now than in 7th), can be used for light flanking.
Wops. I was thinking in 7th ed mode I never take scrolls that aren't the Feedback scroll so the rules hadn't clicked with me. Best counter you have is a unit with T8 and or Regen that beats the beasty on combat res and makes it run away. And I think that paying ~50 points to give your 'physical' counter +1 S and +1 attack (IE - getting a scar vet instead of using a Revered Guard) is not necessary. I completely disagree. Reroll hits against I3 and lower is not worth 10 points. Yes I know the Hydra has I2.
I completely disagree. Reroll hits against I3 and lower is not worth 10 points. Yes I know the Hydra has I2.[/quote] it is not just the re-roll. it is ASF, that matters.
A single Hero with ASF isn't worth it anymore, since the casualities are removed from the rear ranks. I prefer a resilient Scar Vet with HA/GW or high stength weapons. It will help saurus to deal with heavy cavalry/Infantry, Monstrous Infantry or monters. Personally, I only use a Character (...a Slaan, of course!)
if you opponent has ASF, your I doesn't matter. and against opponents without ASF, you get the aforementioned reroll, which I agree is limited to I3, but still useful against many opponents (e.g. for dwarfs, orcs even against heroes). I think it is worth the 10 points difference.
Yeah, ASF = I11 In either list, it will probably do you better to convert some of those skirmishers to ranks skinks, and then put the krox in that unit. Gotta love 3 krox with 18 extra wounds.
