Ok, So I've got a 3000 Point game tonite, and I'm using most of my collection to make the points limit. This is what I've got at the moment and I need your advice to fill up the remaining 182 points. 1x Slann Mage Priest Battle Standard bearer Focussed Rumination Soul of Stone Focus of Mystery The Becalming Cognition Cupped hands of the old ones. 495 Points 20x Temple Guard with full command 355 Points 1x Lvl 2 Skink Priest on Engine of the Gods Diadem of Power 415 Points Army Leaders: 1265 Skinks + Kroxigor 105 12 Skinks 84 Points 12 Skinks 84 Points 20x Saurus Warriors with full command 250 Points 20x Saurus Warriors with full command 250 Points 773 Points for Core 4x Terradons 120 Points 8x Saurus Cavalry with full command 330 Points 8x Saurus Cavalry with full command 330 Points Special: 780 Points Total: 2818 So do I take another Scarvet to help my Saurus in combat ? Another Skink Priest ? Do I take a Mounted Scarvet on a cold one to lead my cavalry ? What do you guys think ? I was thinking to perhaps take a Scarvet on foot with hide of the cold ones. That will make both my 20 Man Saurus unit and Temple guard immune to fear which will allow me to fight his Foot Troops on even footing. He goes very magic heavy so my idea was to use the becalming cognition and the Diadem + Skinkpriest for dispel. That would give me 2+2+2+2 = 8 Dice for dispel. Plenty to help crush the ION that he spams. He plays very magic heavy, usually with about 3 Vampires (or more ? Is that Possible?) I have the following units left: 1 Scarvet on Foot 1 Scarvet on Cold One 1 Skink Priest on foot What do I take with the remaining 182 Points ?
CHotOO and Soul of Stone are redundant, you won't need both. If you leave off Soul of Stone, you have 232 points left: Here are a few suggestions: 110=Jaguar Saurus of Doom 90=lvl 1 priest w/ Feather Cloak (for channeling purposes) 135=Hide of Cold One Scar-vet You can also take a Scar-vet on Cold One, but I have not used one so I can't advise you how best to equip him. Hope this helps!
Saurus without spears huh? I guess there's nothing out and out wrong with it, they are still heavy infantry. Consider the spears though, most people seem to agree spear saurus rock fayce. If you are super concerned with Invocation of Nehek, take the staff of +1 to dispel, it can make the difference when your going one dice against 1. Diadem of stupid wizards is quite impressive. If you've got nothing better to give your slann, give him the war banner.
Please note - Vampire Counts magic is utterly overpowered. You need more dispel dice. Priests. Dispel Scrolls. (on foot, hidden or flying). You want lots of saurus WITH SPEARS in units of 18 ranked 6x3 (its almost becoming a catch-phrase for me). This is real important. It looks like you added you TG unit to the cost of slann. They don't go towards cost of characters...they're a special choice. Salamanders real good. Give temple guard the war banner. The slann only needs the discard 6's power (in this case its really good, as a lot of vc magic uses one dice), focus of rumination and mystery. keep cupped hands, use on vampire lord. Take a unit of 26 TG, no joke. (They ream undead troops, wll never run away, protect your slann for longer, and have more rank bonus.). With the 2x2 (4 total) base size of your slann, this makes a unit 6x5. Just good. Its a lot of points, but its a lot of 'points denial too". FOR THE SLANN-- Take LORE of METAL if he has 5 blood knights. Lots of victory points, unit very dangerous. (Read the last spell. On blood knights, its "2d6 are slain on 2+). A blood knight unit of 5 with champion standard and musician and Royal banner of Strigos is like 360 points, and can end worlds. Kill it. Also metal kills black knights. Take LORE of FIRE if he has a more infantry based army, and no blood knights (and only like 5 black knights). Remember, take the lore that is good situatonally. WHERE IS HIS VAMPIRE LORD DEPLOYED? If its in a knight unit, take metal, and nuke it. If its on a dragon (cos he's a cheesy loser), then ignore him and take fire if there aren't many knights.
