8th Ed. 3000points - Carnosaur/Slann - Need Advice

    I'm working on a lizardmen army at the moment and this is the army list that I'm planning so just before I go ahead and collect the army I'm keen to get some advice, criticism or tips

    Lords:
    Saurus Old Blood - Carnosaur, Shield, Light armour, Sword of the Hornet and Talisman of Protection

    I'm really intent on keeping the carnosaur and slann as 2 lord choices but again criticism is wanted :D

    I like it, especially the carnie since its rare to see in lists. You may want a 2nd unit of skink skirmishers, since I find they're very flexible and opponents either attack them and recieve some damage in return (stand and shoot, high initiative) or ignore them which means lots of turns of shooting.

    Yeh I'm thinking if I take off the skink priest on foot I can field 2 units of 10 skirmishers and maybe juice up my oldblood a little more

    The Oldblood needs more protection definitely, just a 1+ save will get him killed pretty quick. I think it'd be worth taking a scroll at least on the skink priest, and I'd drop the second one as he doesn't add much to the army. I would also drop things like the skink brave on skirmishers, and full command on the cavalry asi don't think they're worth the points.

    Speaking of the cavalry, why 8? If you run them 4x2 they have no rank bonus, but no one in their right mind would run them 8 wide...so it seems a strange number. Personally I would take 5 with musician, this saves 145 points. Dropping some of the other things like skink brave, priest etc. and you might even squeeze in a couple of salamanders or chameleon skinks in the list as well as a ward save on the Oldblood :)

    The cavalry are being run with the carnosaur to make them 5 wide 2 ranks

    Ok well that makes more sense. I still think your Oldblood needs more protection, I'd probably give him the Dawnstone as opposed to that Talisman, a 6+ ward isn't going to be that useful. Definitely give him the Charmed Shield though, it will allow you to ignore the first hit (like a cannonball for example) on a 2+, and it's cheaper than a regular shield.

    I'd drop the Totem of Prophecy, Fear isn't that great this edition, and definitely isn't worth 50 points. It's a much better idea to give him items that will keep him alive IMO. If you really want you could give him the Terrifying Mask of EEE! for 25 points, which causes Terror, it's better and half the cost.

    What lore are you planning to run on your Slann? Another thing, Bane Head on the champion seems like a waste, any character worth his salt is going to hit before the TG champion, and probably kill him before he can even strike.

    The Carnosaur cannot join units as it is a monster.
