I recently got back into Lizardmen, after a 10 year break from fantasy... Things have changed (mainly for the better it seems). I have a group of friends that I'll be playing a few games against at 3000 points (their armies are pretty varied, mainly VC, TK, Ogres and High Elves). I don't want them to wipe the floor with me too much, so any constructive criticism is welcome! Lords: Slann Mage-Priest: (Lore of Life) - Disciplines: Focus of Mystery, Focused Rumination, Becalming Cogitation. - Cupped Hands and BSB. (445pts) Heroes: Skink Priest: (Lore of Heavens) - Engine of the Gods, Amulet of Itzl and Plaque of Tepok. (400pts) Core: Saurus Warriors x 28 + Full Command Saurus Warriors x 24 + Full Command + Spears Skinks x 22 + Standard Bearer + Musician + 2 Kroxigors Skink Skirmishers x 10 Skink Skirmishers x 10 Skink Skirmishers x 10 (1100pts) Special: Temple Guard x 20 + Full Command + Enchanted Shield + Banner of Swiftness Chameleon Skinks x 6 Chameleon Skinks x 6 Stegadon (754pts) Rare: Salamanders x 2 Salamanders x 2 (300pts) Total = 2999 The Slann will be nestled safely in the Temple Guard unit (I will probably use the Lore of Light instead of life in the games against VC and TK). The Engine of the Gods will be in the centre of the army, providing safety from ranged attacks and buffing the Slann's casting. The 2 Saurus units and the Skinks with Kroxigors will be the main core of the army, while the skirmishers and Stegadon will sure up the flanks/provide support. The Salamanders should make short work of larger enemy units. I haven't used the Chameleon skinks before, but they look fun...
Very solid list. The only thing I would consider would be swapping the Enchanted Shield out for Venom of the FIrefly Frog. That way you will have some magical attacks in case those VC get some ethereal troops into your TG.
Good idea, I believe my friend that plays VC is partial to taking Hexwraiths. I was also considering swapping it for the Banner of Eternal Flame against TK, since some of their more powerful units are flammable.
Hi! I don't see how this is a friendly list? It's one of the most powerfull lists there is.. Not your list in particular, but taking 3 big blocks of saurus/temple guard, 20+ skink skirmishers and as much salamanders as possible, is considered very strong. I suggest you pick a theme for your list, maybe all skink or all monster or even only saurus! That makes for a powerfull, but different list, which is fun to play against. well, at least that is how I see it!
When I say "friendly" I mean I will be playing against my friends, it's still destroy or be destroyed... Update - this army beat a fairly nasty TK army.
Solid list. I am curious why your hw Saurus block is slightly larger than your spear block. Spear Sauri need to keep their extra ranks to remain competitive with hw Sauri, which would suggest the spear block should be the larger one. That's a small criticism though. I still haven't worked out when to use spears myself yet.
My thinking was that the larger unit without spears will be my more aggressive anvil unit, it will be the one to move up the field of battle faster and charge, while the spear block will be slightly more defensive as the spears don't get to attack with the extra rank when charging. The aggressive unit will take more casualties, but have more bodies to lose, and therefore will be more effectively sustained by the Slann using life (the 6+ ps also helps with this). I was going to have both units at 28, but due to the points I kept the reduced the spear unit in number slightly.
