I haven't played with salamanders in 8th yet, but I hear they rock on the order of an cannon. Wouldn't be surprised if people complain about 6 of them. However with this list you aren't exploiting our super awesome saurus infantry so I would say it certainly isn't cheesy.
Salamanders do more than just rock; they roll now too. In my first 8th ed. game against Dark Elves, they ran circles around everything and did the vast majority of my kills. The new emphasis on big infantry blocks makes for a nice, target rich environment. Expect them to be #1 priority kills for the enemy.
Yeah, i could drop some salamanders for some terradons, but i think ill get more worth out of the salamanders to be honest. What do you think to the big blocks of skrox?
I always take the Crown and the Gold Sigil Sword for my (mounted) scar-vet (not usually the BSB tho, as the Slann is the best place for it imo). Gives him a 1+ save, Stubborn, and attacks at Initiative 10.
Skrox are great now. The enemy can no longer target close combat attacks at the kroxigor in the second rank, and the skinks all get the 6+ parry ward save for their HW/shield. Plus, the kroxigor take up enough room to count as two ranks in the unit, so you'll be steadfast that much longer. I do well with two units of 24&3, but more is usually better.
The more I think about it, with the kroxigor filling the second and third rank, you shouldn't get any more attacks by running them in a hoard. Running them wider gets you less ranks, so I think it's doing you a big disservice unless you're planning on having 9 ranks- which is likely overkill. Personally, I'd run smaller units. Spells that cause toughness or strength tests will be game losing against groups that big.
