I have a tourney coming up and the list is due in a few days, and I've only had a few games of practice with unsatisfactory lists. The rules are 3000 points and 1 bonus hero up to 130 points (does not count against hero allowance) who cannot be mounted (would be WAY too cool otherwise).

For changes, I have no Temple Guard, only 1 unit of saurus with spears, but I do have a dozen kroxigors.

Since I only have 1 unit of spear saurus, I ran that unit larger to benefit more from it. The smallest Saurus will provide a wizard bunker when needed, otherwise, it'll just guard a flank. Strategy-wise, it's pretty basic. Old Blood goes straight for the toughest thing in the army (steed of shadow can definitely help :D ), and the Scar-Vet cowboy takes out anything weaker that may cause trouble or waits to flank something on a saurus block. Gor Rok and the other Scar-Vet just go in the saurus unit to add punch (along with wildform, savage beasts, or mindrazor). I'll admit, I'm not great with handling the Stegadon or the terachief yet, but I think they will both be plenty useful.

Slann - BSB - Lore of Shadow - Harmonic Convergence, Channelling Staff, Standard of Discipline

Old Blood - Cold One - GW, Armor of Destiny, Dawnstone, Other Trickster's Shard

    Tetto'Eko

    Priest - lvl2 Beasts - dispel scroll

    Gor-Rok

Scar-Vet - Cold One - GW, LA - Charm Shield, Talisman of Preservation

Skink Chief - Teradon - LA, Spear, Enchanted Shield

BONUS HERO Scar-Vet - GW, Armor of Fortune, Dragonbane Gem, Ironcurse Icon

    Saurus x 28 - spears - FC

    Saurus x 24 - HW - FC

    Saurus x 14 - HW - Standard, Musician

    XX Skink Skirmishers x 10 - javelins

    XX Skink Skirmishers x 10 - javelins

    XX Skink Skirmishers x 10 - javelins

    XXX Chameleons x 8

    XX Chameleons x 6

    XX Salamander

    XX Salamander

    Stegadon - Sharpened Horns

Alternatively, I've played a similar list with 2 units of rippers instead of the steg. It gave me 4-6 vangaurds + scouts. I used it to send the SV cowboy and the flyers up one flank, which often caused the opponents to make mistakes, not to mention, it could be pretty useful if the rippers have targets.

Is Tetto too much? He's awesome and provides me with ranged damage, but I could take a lvl 2 heavens w/ scroll, and a lvl2 beasts with power stone (surprise wildform!) and have enough leftover points for a razordon or more saurus/skinks. Maybe squeeze in a 3rd sally.

I have to have this list submitted in a day or 2, and I have a lot of questions about it still. Help a brother out?

Do not post points costs for individual units. Thanks.

Right now your potential spell list is all over the place. You are going to get a couple of beast spells, all of the lore of heavens, and 4 shadow spells. There is no way you are going to be able to use all of those spells and the randomization of what spells you are going to get is going to kill you (and is wasting precious points)

If I were you, I'd either drop Tetekko or your Slann. If you drop the Slann, you'll then have plety of points for another Saurus Old Blood and an extra Salamander. Maybe upgrade a Saurus to BSB standard.

Drop Tetekko, and you can take Razadons, Salamanders, and some more Saurus. Another thing that could help is just another Skink Priest with the Cube of Darkness for some much needed Dispel action.

As much as I love Tetto, I think I may need to drop him. At least for a practice game if I can get one. Starting with 28 saurus and 4 characters halfway across the board is going to be missed, but the tourney looks light on shooting armies so far. What I'm really going to miss, though, is iceshard and S6 magic missiles getting through unhindered because opponents are too scared of my other spells (oh, and rerolls lol).

A modified list would look more like this, then:

Slann - BSB - Lore of Shadow - Harmonic Convergence, Channelling Staff, Standard of Discipline

Old Blood - Cold One - GW, Armor of Destiny, Dawnstone, Other Trickster's Shard

Priest - lvl 2 Beasts - power stone

Priest - lvl 1 Heavens - dispel scroll

Priest - lvl 1 Heavens - Cube of Darkness

    Gor-Rok

Scar-Vet - Cold One - GW, LA - Charm Shield, Talisman of Preservation

Skink Chief - Teradon - LA, Spear, Enchanted Shield

BONUS HERO Scar-Vet - GW, Armor of Fortune, Dragonbane Gem, Ironcurse Icon

    Saurus x 28 - spears - FC

    Saurus x 24 - HW - FC

    Saurus x 14 - HW - Standard, Musician

    Skink Skirmishers x 10 - javelins

    Skink Skirmishers x 10 - javelins

    Skink Skirmishers x 10 - javelins

    Chameleons x 8

    Chameleons x 6

    Salamander

    Salamander

    Ancient Stegadon - Sharpened Horns

    Better? Worse?

EDIT: Basically just replaced a lvl 2 heavens and a Razordon with 2 lvl 1 priests.

I have 7 points to spare, which I see as either potion of foolhardiness on the terachief or an extra skirmisher.

Any final thoughts before I submit my list?

You have 12 Kroxigor? Run them!
Unit of 8 and unit of 4, or 2 units of 6.
At 3K, I'd also take dispel scroll and cube. You can run into some pretty brutal builds at that point value, and you'll want the double scrolls.

Are you playing on a 6' table?

Well, my list is already submitted, but for the sake of growth, I'll respond here. In my second version of the list, if you saw, I did actually include a scroll and a cube.

I had thought of running a unit of 8-9 kroxigors, but lately they've been getting torn to pieces before combat. That said, I've run them with great results before in a list with ripperdactyls, cowboys, and tetto (put a cowboy or 2 in the unit of kroxes to start the game and guarantee to vanguard all of them }:D ). In fact, the other idea I had for a list was an old blood and 2 scar-vets in a decent sized unit of cold ones alongside a large unit of kroxes. Then, basically, the opponent may be able to handle either/or, but likely not both. I scrapped the list for now, having no experience with cavalry or deathstar type units.

And, yes, huge Krox units scare the bejesus out of folks :)

    I like the list.

You should have a really strong magic phase with enough protection and your heros can really pack a punch!

I guess it will come down to positioning: charge the right units with the right unit, if you know what I mean.
You should have the tools to deal with anything your opponants may throw at you. Just need to make sure they actually get to fight them ;)
