Hey guys, I'm trying to beat a buddy of mine that plays beastmen, we've been building to a 3500 pt game and so far he's beaten me 5 out of 6 times, sheer mass of soldiers and luck of the dice are on his side. Since a reacuring theme of (i have sucky rolls) has become apparent in my magic phase, im trying to build a list that relies on magic as little as possible. here's what i have so far. Slann (general) (BSB) TG bunker Becalming Cognition Focus of mystery Soul of Stone Old blood Armor of Destiny Great weapon Crown of Command Other tricksters Shard Gor-Rok Scar-Vet Great Weapon Talisman of Preservation light armor Carnosaur LS BR Skink Priest 2 Beast Ancient Stegadon Blowpipes Sharpened Horns Temple Guard x25 Halberds Light armor fire banner Cold one Riders x4 musician Spears Jungle swarms x4 Chamelion Skinks x6 Saurus x50 oldblood (listed above) Spears musician standard Razor banner Saurus x41 Gor-Rok Spears Musician Stanard Skink Skirmishers x10 Skink Skirmishers x10 Skink Skirmishers x10 The army i face generally includes: Gor hord 80+ Wargor beastigor 30+ Beastlord w/ CoC, Brass Cleaver, Ramhorn helm minotaur 5 Gorbull Malagor (lvl 4 shaman loremaster death) brayshaman 1 beast brayshaman 1 shadow Ungors 20 Cygor Razorgor Razorgor Razorgor Razorgor so i've found my blocks of saurus can take down a block of gors or beastigors (assuming they dont flee) thus i have gor rok and the oldblood to make them stubborn. this whole list banks on poisoned attacks because his army has decent armor saves all around. my general plan is to hold him up with the saurus blocks and flank with the cowboy unit while using the slann and priest to buff, (offensive attacks generally fail on me and cause a miscast in the process, my rolls suck). my biggest problems are the cygor throwing rocks at me and his death shamy casting black sun in the middle of my army. i'd love to turtle up and yell "come at me bro" across the table but that stupid rock thrower and sun wreck my day if i stay compacted. Everyone tells me lizards should beat beast without a problem but i just dont see it. im not loosing by a little haha im getting creamed. Every post ive read says i need to make them run but with a beastlord or wargol in their ranks, they have leadership 10 and 9 respectively. Gor-Rok, i no hes expensive but making 80+ gors take a dangerous terrain test with -1 modifier is just awesome, plus he is stubborn and i think thats worth the pts. am i wrong? Stegadon- everyone says go eotg but i just dont see whats so good about it... +1 initiative still leaves me at I2 which is still last and not even equal to his slowest units (I3) maybe in conjunction with hand of glory but i still see 4D6 poisoned shots as the better deal Any help would be appreciated, the list is a work in progress so feel free to rip it apart if need be. Only MODELS who end their charge in b2b with Gor-Rock need to test for difficult terrein, not the whole unit! The +1I comes form the solar engine of the bastiladon, not the EotG from the Steg. SCOR are unit size 5+, 4 is illegal. If your worried with his death magic im surprised you neither have scroll nor cube in your list. Also, Sallies mage a great roasted goat bbq with those hordes your facing..
thanks for the tips, bummer about gor rok, i kinda envisioned that as the whole unit charging past his shield as the two units clashed but w/e. updated my list to include some sallies and the scroll and cube (which were included but not listed). Question on the sallies, can they shoot into an engaged unit? i assume not but want to be sure. and the SCOR were supposed to be with the carnosaur, does he not count towards unit strength? Hey I'm sorry to hear that you aren't doing great Anyway you cannot have CoD and Dispel Scroll on same priest as you are only aloud one. Have you tried Harmonic Convergence and Channelling staff on Slann may help mitigate some of your bad luck! As far as I am aware the Carno cannot join the SCOR and even if it could wouldn't count towards size! Sallies really will fry those Gors and if you can do it something like Fiery convo will too. I'm far from the best player but their is my advice I guess. Good luck! P.S. Where does he normally put his level 4?
Thanks for the tips, he sits malagor(the lvl 4) in his hord, chilling on the corner so my dairy's can't hit it if their not in hord formation but he still gets "look out sir!" As well as shooting randomization. I'm not sure abou the carno either, I'm using the old Krok'Gar model which is the same size to fit with the SCOR, but in truth I'll be kinda glad if it is illegal because it will free up a lot of points lol. Can you really not have scroll and CoD on one priest? Their unique items... Fml that sucks Thx for the hints I'll post a revision soon
A Scar Vet cowboy with 1+ rerollable save may help because you can run him into his horde then Malagor cannot cast offensive spells! Even if it delays him a turn or two for you to move up
