My friend and I are planning an epic Storm of Magic game this December and I was hoping for some feedback (since this will indicate what undead models I will build). Before my undead force is big enough to field on its own, I’m starting with Storm of Magic. This is poised to be the debut of my little Vampire Counts force. It will against my friends Orcs and Goblins (or a High Elf army with lots of O&G derived Scroll of Binding Monsters). At the moment I don’t have a lot of other VC units. In addition to what’s on my list, I can field Skeletons, Bat Swarms, Fell Bats, or a Mortis Engine (if I field my zombie Stegadon as a ME instead of a Black Coach). Depending on how my conversion work turns out, I could probably field some dire wolves too. I also could drop some of my ethereals to buy more equipment for my characters. I can pretty much field any LM unit I want in any quantity I want as I have 12,000+ points of them. Pact Force Vampire, Enchanted Shield, Masterful Stroke (that means he can exchange his regular attacks for one Heroic Killing Blow attack) L1 Lore of Vampires Necromancer, L1 Lore of Vampires, Corpse Cart with Unholy Lode Stone (that means I can re-roll dice to boost the numbers of zombies I resurrect, or I can use the points of the Lode Stone to buy 10 zombies. I need the Corpse Cart and my two characters to survive at least two rounds to pay for itself here.) 20 Zombies with Standard Associated Special: 1 Spirit Host (swarm with ethereal) Assosicated Rare: Black Coach (gets stronger the more power dice I generate ) 20 Zombies with Standard Associated Special: 1 Spirit Host Associated Rare: 2 Cairn Wraiths and a Banshee (for scream attacks) Main Force Slann Mage Priest, BSB, Standard of Discipline, Channeling Staff, Harmonic Convergence, Lore of Death, Soul of Stone, Unfathomable Presence Saurus Old Blood, Carnosaur with Loping Stride, Armor of Destiny, Obsidian Trinket, Warrior Bane sword, Shield Skink Priest, L1, Lore of Heavens, Cloak of Feathers, Scroll of Shielding Skink Priest, L1, Lore of Heavens, Scroll of Leeching Skink Priest, L1, Lore of Beasts, Forbidden Rod, Opal Amulet 31 Saurus Warriors with Spears and FC 30 Saurus Warriors with HW + Shield and FC 10 Skink Skirmishers with Javelins and Shields and Champion 10 Skink Skirmishers with Javelins and Shields and Champion 10 Skink Skirmishers with Blowpipes and Champion 30 Temple Guard with Full Command 8 Chameleon Skinks with Champion Ancient Stegadon, Engine of the Gods, Sharpened Horns, and Unstoppable Stampede Ancient Stegadon, Engine of the Gods, Sharpened Horns, and Unstoppable Stampede 2 Razordon Hunting Packs 1 Salamander Hunting Pack with additional Handler Defense The Vampire is going to occupy one Arcane Fulcrum. He and my Necromancer are going to cast Invocation of Nehek each turn boosted by the Corpse Cart. The zombies are just there to stall any would be attackers. If a Monster breaks through or flies over the zombie, I have the Vampire’s Heroic Killing Blow as a last line of defense. A Skink Priest is going to occupy my other starting Fulcrum. The Spear Sauri are going to defend them. An Stegadon will rotate between the two fulcrums depending on which one needs reinforcements more. Offense The Slann and Temple Guard will be main hammer with flanking support from one of the Stegadons and the Black Coach (which should power up VERY quickly in a Storm Game). The Slann will Death the crap out of things. Whenever Death is ascendancy, the Lore of Vampires will also be in Ascendancy making my combined forces nigh unbeatable. The Razordons should be able to threaten enemy wizards on fulcrums just by a sheer volume of shots. The Chameleon Skinks and Banshee can alternate between trying to kill monsters and trying to kill fulcrum wizards as circumstances dictate. A Salamander is always good for shooting up blocks. Floaters The Skirmishers can help shoot down monsters or wizards but they are mainly there to bunker my Skink Priests so they aren’t immediately slain by magic missiles. The Skink Priests’ main purpose is to claim vacated Arcane Fulcrums. The Skink Priests can also help the Slann cast Death sniping spells and they can also cast Fantastic Foresight at every opportunity. The Spirit Hosts are there to bog down things without magical attacks. Will my basic battle plan work or am I overestimating the power of Invocation of Nehek to keep two blocks of zombies going? What Happens if we Become Sane and decide 9000 points on the table is too many? We might end up trimming the game down from 3600 points. If that’s the case on the undead side I’ll start by dumping the ethereal units. On the LM side I’ll start by dropping down to one Stegadon and one Razordon and then drop the Blowpipe Skinks. I can also turn my Old Blood Carnosaur cowboy into a Cold One Cowboy but I really feel obligated to bring the Carnosaur givne how Storm of Magic is supposed to go monster heavy.
