For all you people who've posted here, i am annoncing a bother: My oponent is a bother and is deciding to use WOC now. Well, here goes, probably went a little upgrade heavy on the Slann, but i know we'll be playing on a 4'(sih)x4'(ish) table, so i think terror will be useful, and his magic, which i fear will be snipers (like a nurgle sorcerer with default spell. The name escapes me) hence the negate 6's (probably not neccesary now that my opponent will be WoC.) Possilbly too character heavy as well. (also, the lack of a fighty character scares me, should i put 1 in?) Lords. Slann (You guys probably won't like this) Whole Lore, +1PD, negate 6's, terror, cupped hands, bane head, scroll. (I was sort of thinking of using this guy as a sort of sniper.) 510 points. priest, level 2, Eotg, rod of the storm (for taking out cold one knights, they'll probably have ring of Hoteck) and Blood Stattuette of Spite. 440 points.. (Basically the do-everything one. IE: Cast a bit, kill threats alot, dispell etc) Priest, cloak of feathers, scroll, level 2. 150 points Cheif, Ancient Stegadon, stegadon war-spear, light armour, shield (probably redundant.) 384 points. Chief, Terradon, staff of the lost sun, additional hand weapon, light armour. Priest, diadem, scroll. (for sitting back and dispelling, and basically being a nusance.) Core: 5x10 skink skirmishers. 350 ponts. Special: 20 Temple Guard, full command, sun standard, cursecharm. 415 points. (In case you havn't guessed by now, im going magic defence.... as best i can.) 10 Chamelion Skinks, stalker. 126 points 10 Chamelion Skinks, stalker. 126 points 4 Terradons, brave. 130 points. 4 Terradons, brave. 130 points 3002 points. This is probably going to get hacked to death, but i came up with it in 5 mins and thought it'd be a good base (as it was built armound advice from thesecondman) Thanks for reading.
Re: 3K Light Cheese list (for taking on DE *shudder*) A 3000 points army with no SAURUS!?!?!?!?!? Not even a JSoD? Take out at least half the camo skinks, because the terradons can do what they do, and GET SOME SPEAR SAURUS Better to have crazy-good infantry than a hero-army with a bunch of skinks.
Re: 3K Light Cheese list (for taking on DE *shudder*) Hmm well the idea of the army is that it is min-maxed, saurus are a lot of points and aren't overpowered or 'bang for your buck' like the other units in the army are, so it is probably fine. My concern with the list is that it doesn't have very many scary targets. You have a big chunk of TG with a slann, very expensive but slow, and you have 2 stegadons. Even against armies with not very much shooting, once they blast the crap out of a steg and soften your TG you basically only have support units. Sure your army will be hard to kill, and very annoying, but what is going to do all the damage? Against other semi-cheesy lists I think you will suffer. It will depend a fair bit on what your opponent decides to go with though.
Re: 3K Light Cheese list (for taking on DE *shudder*) go skinks, go skinks, do the skink dance, do the skink dance! i'm happy that some is makeing a large skink list as expressed above, but i have to agree with strewart on the argument of opponents easily taking out your few, hard hitting, expensive unit, if that is what strewart was referring to. you already have an incredible amount of magic ability so maybe drop a priest or chief and get some skinks with kroxigor in the. also, get rid or the terradon braves, they aren't that great. do the skink dance! camo-skink
Re: 3K Light Cheese list (for taking on DE *shudder*) Well your Slann setup isn't bad, but I'd drop the terror, both stegadons already cause it, and if you want more panic tests get a salamander or two (which can toast cold one knights fairly well if your careful with it) Becalming Cognigation (spelling?) is pretty good if your worried about a magic heavy DE army. Though I think your better off dropping the chief on steg and fielding a second EOTG. Also I don't really like your item setup on the current EOTG, I don't usually like Rod of Storms, but you can take that if you really want. I'd drop the Blood Statuette, and put War Drums on the second EOTG. I'd Drop the priest with cloak to, but thats open to debate, and preference. The Diadem Priest is decent for magic defense, but I'd make him level 2 so you don't have to use one of your army PD to get the +2 to dispel. So far I agree with others that skinks are useful, but they won't really kill anything. They (as skirmishers) marchblock/harass/and such. That does help you win, and can screw up the enemy and you can control charges and such. But that's not enough. I'd field alot of big block troops, two blocks of 20 saurus and the 20 temple guard to hold the center, a bunch of units of 10 skirmishers for harass and marchblock etc. Double EOTG with Slann, unit of 3-4 terradons, 2-3 salamanders (and/or 3 Razordons, I perfer salamander). Something like that, I'm just rambling not adding points. I'd drop the terradon riding cheif for spare points. If you really want, a third vanilla stegadon wouldn't be terrible. The list will be cheesey but not the cheesiest it possible can be, and I think thats an advantage. If your smart, you can control the game with magic and skinks (I'd drop chameleons for more normal skinks) and sniping with bane head could help you out, you'd have to take lore of metal, which would do well for killing his characters and mostly general. Flaming attacks will hurt a hydra, and you'll be able to shut down a bolt thrower, and help out your blocks in combat. I just don't trust nothing but skinks to handle themselves in a 3k game. Maybe a 1k or 1500pt. But not 3k. I figure you should have 4 blocks of 10 skink skirmishers, and maybe another 5 blocks of 10 skink cohorts with no command, these screen OK, and redirect charges well. Good luck.
Re: 3K Light Cheese list (for taking on DE *shudder*) Well, the huge-ass TG are for points denial, they also have that sun standard, and hopefully the EoTG power to keep them safe. I honestly didn't realise the lack of Saurus. So, changes: Drop 1 unit of terradons (and the brave from the other,) 1 unit of chamelion skinks, the blood statuette, terradon chief, and perhaps 1 unit of skinks? For some sallies, razors AND SAURUS!! a unit of 18/20 with spears?
Re: 3K Light Cheese list (for taking on DE *shudder*) Yeah, I've actually been learning alot about lizardmen armies while I've been reading all these different posts on this site, and most people would say field saurus as units of 18 as in 6x3. And everything else you said sounds pretty good. IMO (and this is probably just preference) I perfer to have a really hard center and control the movement phase. But I haven't used (or really needed) chameleon skinks or terradons, I just use skirmishers. There is a debate in the "Lizardmen Discussion" section on when to take chameleon skinks, and it got brought up in there about taking terradons for the same job. You might want to read that.... After reading it I considered taking chameleon skinks, but I'd have to play test em first. So if I were you I'd probably take no terradons and like 2 units of 5-8 chameleon skinks, and load the points into saurus or salamanders or whatever...It's up to you... Good Luck.
So, these are the changes i'll make (when i get around to it.) Ditch 1 unit of chem. Skinks, a terradon unit, do the above changes, ditch a skink priest (please vote which one i should ditch,) the teradon skink chief, and the terradon Brave. For all this i will get: 1 units of 18 Saurus, spears FC. 2 salamanders, fighty oldblood (probably on Carnosaur), CoR (if i have the points, and if i do, i'll put the oldblood with 'em.) And then i'll be done. How do those changes look?
