I got a chance to get 4 games in last week against my buddy who plays VC. It was the chance I really needed to practice basic Warhammer skills and strategies. The first two games I played, last month, I lost terribly. All 4 games were at 1K points. Game 1 Turn 1 VC Went first. The terrain was laid out so that it funneled both our armies down the middle of the field. He moved up with two blocks of Ghouls which contained his vampire generals. He had a Terrorgheist which was positioned off to the side of the map. He made a deployment mistake and the Terrorgheist was unable to march due to being too far away from any Vampires. I moved my Saurus block with the Scar Vet up the center with a Salamander on each side. My Salamanders were approximately 8 inches away from his Ghouls. I shot with both Salamanders and they each killed about 10 ghouls. Perfect rolls. My Chameleons moved up and got a flank shot off on his Ghouls. He quit due to the majority of his army being a pile of ashes and the Terrorgheist being so far out of position. Game 2 (Same night) Nearly the same deployment. This time nothing major happened in Turn 1, we just moved up. For some reason he charged my Saurus block though, his intent was to challenge my general and win. After two turns my Scar Vet beat his General. The Terrorgheist chased my Chameleon Skinks around and eventually killed them. With the VC General dead his army crumbled on the start of the 4th round and he gave up. After the game I recommended to my friend not using the Terrorgheist anymore. He cost something like 255 points and it took him 3 turns to kill off 72 points worth of Chameleons in game 2 and it did nothing in game 1. Game 3 and 4 were close but I lost. The Terrorgheist was subbed out for a Varghulf which worked just as good at tying up my Chameleons but at a lot less points. Game 3 I was just out of position and lost. Game 4 was interesting in that I had Purple Sun kill 80% of my Saurus block and Scar Vet. My Thoughts: I love salamanders. Even if I was at max range I usually tried to shoot with them. I only misfired once out of 4 games so to me it was worth the attempts. When I first played I thought LM were extremely handicapped at 1K points but I’m not so sure now. The magic phase feels slightly weak compared to that of VC at 1k but I feel like I had a more solid unit composition than VC though. Overall I’m very happy with my LM army and I’ve already purchased some TG to upgrade to 1500.
Nice report. Just started WFB with LM so I'm looking around for some strategy and inspiration. Mind telling me your army list for 1k?
If you're starting out, get some saurus and skinks, perhaps a salamdner and a skink priest. Then build from there.
