7th Ed. 500 Point Escalating Army

    My playgroup has decided to start an escalating campaign this summer and I thought it would be the perfect chance to start Lizardmen. We're starting at 500 points using the War Bands rules and moving up to 2000 points by the end of the summer. This is my idea for a starting list:

    Character:

    Skink Chief
    - Staff of the Lost Sun

    Core:

    10 Skink Skirmishers

    15 Saurus
    - Spears, Musician

    Rare:

    2 Salamander Hunting Parties


    The armies I know I will be facing will be Slaanesh Daemons, Bretonnians, Wood Elves. Depending on other players joining I may face Dark Elves, another Lizardmen army, and Dwarves or O&G. Any feedback on this list is appreciated.

    Seems solid enough....good block of saurus, sallies are pretty nasty against anything armoured, low leadership, low toughness or weak against fire.
    I'm not sure about the staff though but I suppose it comes down to play style.

    What are you considering for your next points increase?

    After taking another look at the Staff again I decided to drop it and make a few changes to the list. Here is my revised 500 point list:

    Character:

    Skink Chief
    - Light Armor, Shield, Blowpipe, Venom of the Firefly Frog

    Core:

    10 Skink Skirmishers

    15 Saurus
    - Spears, Musician, Standard

    Rare:

    2 Salamander Hunting Parties


    Venom of the Firefly Frog seems useful as it denies Forest Spirits their ward save in addition to allowing the Skink Chief to reroll his attacks. Our first upgrade will be to 750 points. Here is the list I'm considering:

    Character:

    Skink Chief
    - Light Armor, Shield, Blowpipe, Venom of the Firefly Frog, Terradon

    Core:

    10 Skink Skirmishers

    15 Saurus
    - Spears, Musician, Standard

    10 Saurus
    - Spears, Musician, Standard

    Special:

    3 Terradon Riders

    Rare:

    2 Salamander Hunting Parties


    In this the Skink Chief leaves his faithful skirmishing unit to take to the air with his fellow Terradon Riders. The theory is that with his added muscle the unit of Terradons becomes an effective unit for assist charges as well as general march blocking and harassment. The problem is the list is 753 points. Are there any suggestions as to where to cut 3 points?

    my friends and i have a give or take 5 points rule, so if your friends are that anal about 3 points, you should find others to play with

    For the low point lists I'd say just take one salamander with extra handler. Add the second one in at around 2000 points so that you have two groups of one each. Instead, take a unit of 10 ranked skinks. They can do a lot for their 50 points.

    For your 750 list.. considering you are taking the Terradon riding chief, I would swap the blowpipe for the Staff of the Lost Sun and give him a spear. The venom will give you a magical, poisoned, str 5 attack on the charge, while you also have good power at range. Dropping the extra salamander makes room for this setup. This setup is also better for what you described with support charging and harassment.

    I'd also drop the standard from the smaller unit of saurus, as they aren't really bulky enough and will give up the standard too easily. In their place I'd recommend a couple 10-strong units of ranked skinks.

    Terradons are downright awesome, I think you'll enjoy your unit of 4 at 750 points. Your opponents will NOT enjoy them, especially when you mention the chief has 3 str 5 BS 5 shots from his staff... and 3 str 5 poisoned attacks on the charge!
