Starting a 500 point escalation league tomorrow armies include: my lizardmen chaos daemons ogres skaven 2 dwarfs My list as of now Skink priest -beasts Saurus Warriors -19 warriors w/spears -Full command skink skirmishers -10 w/ blowpipes Ripperdactyles -3 rippers the idea is for the saurus in the middle with the priest behind them casting +1 to str and toughness skinks on one side and rippers on the other. Rippers are meant to either hunt a machine or get a rear flank on the enemy. In two weeks we move to 750, the idea is to help motivate people to build/paint i'll post pictures of my army in the painting log soon (green lizardmen, river themed)
I'm mid way through the same thing at the moment, although starting from 750pts instead. I really like the format as the small points games play really differently to normal ones. i'm running something pretty similar to that list, although I would put javs on the skirmishers personally.
Ok first battle is complete. Went against a skaven player who fielded two units of clan rats, 1 with a clan chief and one with a plaue monk lvl 2. He also had a squad of 5 rats and a prodder dude. Battle was interesting. Rippers gots slaughtered by the monk and the saurus held their own against the chief and friends. Battle ended with me having 5 saurus spears left... everything else on both sides had died or was over run. To be fair i was rolling like a god. Averaged 10 wounds a round with 20 and below attacks
So the other players in the league are: Skaven orks Ogres Daemons dwarfs potentially in the future we could have 2 empire and a vampire counts join in So one thing i have considered is dropping the ripperdactyles and 3 saurus spears for a bastilidon, Thoughts?
I am doing the exact same league, and actually am running an identical list, and I also thought about running a bastilodon. I think that it really depends on your playstyle, if you want a solid rock that will shore up a flank until your saurus crush something, then the Bastilodon with the Solar Engine is great. I personally like the flexibility of the Rippers, they can march block, they can go warmachine hunting if your opponent brings a cannon (boo, hiss!), and they can get 10 re-rolling to hit S4 attackToad taret. And thats with just 2 Rippers. You cant go wrong either way, it just depends what you want the rest of your army to do around it.
I think when i go to 750 points i'm going to replace the priest with a scar vet to add some killing to my saurus brick. I think i'll keep the rippers for now and add a bastilidon at 750. 750 list projection Scar vet items unknown right now, probably the sword that gives first strike 20 Saurus warriors w/ spears and full command 10 skink skirmishers 3 rippers 1 bastilidon i'll count the points later
Heroes scar vet -sword of swift slaying -magic shield Skink priest -GLEAMING PENNANT Troops 19 saurus -spears w/ full command 10 skink skirmishers -blowpipes Special Bastilidon 3 ripperdactles I feel like this list will do very well and fills some of the holes my 500 point lacks. Like a hard hitting hero (aka fast ass scar vet) and some more range shooting (bastilidon)
1000 points of escalation now So moving into round 3 of the escalation league which is 1000 points. So far i have 4 wins and 2 losses which is about average for everyone. My last 3 battles at 750 were a win against daemons and another lizardmen player (sniff sniff tear) and 1 close loss to skaven (the guy is really good tactically and that doomwheel is ridiculous). So now for my 1000 point list i decided (with the help of another player) to try something new for me... a monster mash Heroes skink priest level 1 w/beast skink chief on ripper w/ogre blade, enchanted shield, and light armor Core 20 saurus w/ spears and full command Special 2 x bastilidons Rare Ancient Stegadon w/ sharpened horns and blowpipes skink priest is there to keep saurus in check and give them some push (aka wysanns wildform) and maybe give it to the monsters if needed. The chief is gonna hunt down someones general and flay him alive, 3 attacks at Initiative 6 and strength 6 should do well against some. Stegadon is pretty simple, charge the biggest block. Bastilidons march on both sides of the saurus, defending against flanks and giving them laser beam of death support.
