Hi all, you may have seen two posts made by me on Monday, asking for certain advice in the run-up to a 500pts battle I was having with a friend. Well, I have had that battle, and here is the report. First off, this is not in any way detailed. It happened over 24 hours ago, and, due to time restrictions, I couldn't jot down anything at the time, so it may be a bit patchy. Secondly and finally, there was an extra, unusual factor in this battle. A third person. We are an after-school club and there were three of us at that time. So, the third person randomly picked out a spell for both of the players, and they got that spell cast on them. It just added some enjoyment to the third player's time. My List: Saurus Scar-Veteran Golden Sigil Sword, Bane Head on the Chaos Sorcerer, Light Armour and Shield. Skink Priest Level 1, Plaque of Tepok 14 Saurus Warriors Hand Weapons, Standard Bearer, Champion 5 Chameleon Skinks x2 His List: Chaos Sorcerer 14 Chaos Warriors 14 Marauders I know both of these lists are technically not viable, but we were happy because we were both breaking the rules equally. The terrain was basically forests everywhere – one in the middle, one in the top right corner from my perspective, one in the centre right and left, and one in the bottom left. I deployed my Saurus Warriors with the Scar-Vet in the centre, the Skink Priest just to their left. One Chameleon Skink unit in the forest in the centre, one in the forest on the left. He deployed his Marauders opposite my Saurus Warriors, the other side of the forest. He placed his Chaos Warriors with the Sorcerer behind the forest on the left (still as I’m looking at it). He got first turn. He shuffled back a bit after I told him that Skinks can March and Fire, and magic was uneventful. He rolled double ones for Power Dice, and failed to cast Fireball or Fulminating Flame Cage – his only available spells. My turn and I moved my C Skinks in range of both targets and in total killed one Marauder, I think. (The third person’s spells only came in after Turn 3, we only had the idea then.) He moved both units forward, to within a few inches the C Skinks. Magic, he rolled a 1 and a 2 for Power Dice, again failing miserably. I moved my C Skinks away out of Charge Range. Next turn he shuffled back a bit, and for Magic he rolled a 1 and a 2 again! My shooting inflicted a few casualties, not many though. I moved my Saurus Warriors forward (finally, don’t know what I was thinking by not doing so earlier). Skinks shot unsuccessfully. The Third Person’s spells helped me in some way and killed a few of his guys. He didn’t move and for Magic he rolled a 5 and a 3. Finally! He cast the beefed up version of Fireball, on a 10+. He rolled 10 with 3 dice, and with 2 Dispel Dice I got 11! Shooting I might have killed some more Marauders. 3rd Person’s spells: I got something that did -1 to my Skink Priests WS, AS and T. He died that round. My opponent, however, got some sort of Amber Spear, which killed 2 Chaos Warriors and the Champion. We ended there, saying that I had won. Lessons Learned Get my Saurus into combat. My Saurus didn’t pay for this mistake, but they would have done in a bigger game. Be careful where I place my Skinks. I didn’t place them in the best possible location here, but they still managed to kill some stuff.
Interesting battle report nothing like a quickfire 500 points game. Also, yeah I'm always sure to be careful where the skinks are deployed, I try to make then constantly move out of my opponent's shooting unit's line of site, and shoot at the units that has has that are still in my line of sight, seems to work well, but you need a battlefield with a good bit of terrain. As for getting saurus into combat, I've had my experiances with that too >< the high elf played I often battle against has a shooting heavy army and quite a few times he's just wiped out the unit before they can do anything, I suppose I could do with a bigger unit. PS:Gotta love plaque of Tepok!
