7th Ed. 500pts verses Empire guns

    This is the basic list i've settled for so far i will probably end up tweaking it over the next few games.

    Scar vet - 93pts
    light armor
    shield

    Skink priest (Lvl1) - 65pts
    rolled portent of far :/

    12 Saurus warriors - 175pts
    >full command
    >spears

    10 Skinks - 86pts
    >sticks
    >brave

    11 Skinks - 83pts
    >blowpipes
    >brave

    ok i need some guidance! and what better place than lustria forums haha :D

    Ok ive been experimenting with different lists modest skink priest heroes, and saurus regiments etc, skirmishers and am wondering if you an give me any advice

    I have two opponents currently a WoC player who just generally sends blocks of his hard-liner troops at me, leaving him not very mobile, he has hounds but he seldom uses them and he has wizards

    And my second most prominent adversary is an empire player who spams guns two regiments of ten hand gunners, some potent war machine and spearmen blocks , or knights and halberdiers or something along those lines.

    ive lost twice to him now, he has mortars, great cannons and vollyguns, engineers and a warrior preist somewhere - which may offer some conflict to my priest who is otherwise unopposed. ive been using skink magic to devastating effect so far, frazzling empire knights and reducing his small blocks of units down to panic them.

    The models in my army i have to work with are:

    Scar veterans
    Skink Priests
    12 Saurus with spears full command
    11 Skinks with blowpipes + Brave
    10 Skinks with javelins + Brave
    1 base of jungle swarm

    I also have a skink chief with a stegadon warspear on a standard stegadon, and a slann mage priest but they would be too pricey and not quite so legal for this style of game

    Could you guys suggest any lists, or character builds i could apply as well as perhaps what units i could get next to enhance what i already have for the same scale of battle (500pts) im planning on getting another skink set and converting ten into chameleon skinks and additional blowpipes as sticks ive been finding are rather pathetic.

    HI
    I find when you go up agent harder hitting troops it is a good idea to let the jungle swarms go in front of the Skink Priests to prevent them from getting in to close combat. The jungle swarms are a small target so the Skink Priests can cast over the top.
    I would advise you have the skinks as skirmishers (they can all fire so if you have 10 that’s 20 poisoned shots. Just think if you have say 200 skinks that’s 400 shots you’ll wipe out more less all of any models in their way but if they get in to close combat they are dune for.
    As for Saurus I have not had any experience ( I’m going for a mostly skink army)

    You might want to try out the Sun Standard for one your expensive units,
    -1 or -2 penality for people shooting at you is a prety good bonus.
    you might want to consider some Chamelions to take car of those war machines,
    I would normaly say terradons but against massed shooting I'm not sure thy would live very long.

    Unless you have TITAQ’TO in a unit of terradons (master of the skies rule)

    Not viable in a 500 pt. game. I agree, if you're facing a gunline, might as well stack some skinks. Gunlines are pretty unfun for the opponent and really brutal at such low points cost, so my suggestion is 3 units of 12-14 skink skirmishers. Field them as having blowpipes, and forget the braves. Poisoned 2x multiple shots and they will be at a -1 penalty for shooting your skinks, it might just about even out and provide you with cover so you can roll in there with a block of saurus and chop them up, then slap your friend and tell him to field an army youll have fun playing against.

    thanks guys i was definitely considering some chameleons, i seem to be suffering HUGE casualties before i reach his line, but im mid game with him, so i will let you know how that went once its reached a conclusion :D

    ooh i scraped a victory!!! (Y) :)

    i was lucky - his vollygun exploded (few) after massacring a whole skink unit with blowpipes. my saurus suffered a fair amount of causalities but still managed to remain at 8 strong and charge a unit of 20 Spearmen on the 3rd turn of combat i caused heavy casualties 15 attacks from 12 saurus with spears and spawning champion :D he fled i pursued and destroyed that unit shifting points back in my favor ( with his blown up volly gun) my skink line finally managed to get behind his gun line and trow sticks in their backs - from 6 skinks including a brave, i scored a lucky 6 kills on the handgunner regiment of ten strong forcing them to flee by this point his army was in so much flight he resigned. :) woo! first victory for me with my new army!

    His army was essentially a gun line with a bulky infantry unit and set up behind barricades and on hills in the corner of the board :/ and alot of open ground - needless to say i screened alot of my skinks and lost huge numbers. my skink priest was also pretty obsolete and unlucky this game i was hoping for an offensive spell.
    in this 500 pointish game He had

    20 spearmen
    >full command
    10 handgunners
    >marksman(? i think) with hochland long rifle
    10 handgunners
    >marksman with hochland long rifle
    VollyGun --> :mad: :(

    i was fielding

    I know its slightly over but it was agreed that it was acceptable :)

    i have recently got hold of 6 skinks and some saurus cavalry from ebay and am busy converting the skinks into chameleons so i will probably play around with these as i include them in my army list, which i will probably tinker with over the next games i play

    His army was illegal, you have to have one character to be your general...

    ok cheers i will remind him :) - he normally shoved an engineer in his list, but he didnt this time
