Hey Guys, So I have a 600 pt tournament on the weekend and I can't seem to decide what to take. Each round is 15 minutes so looking at about 20+ games in the day (really fast). The issue with so low a point count, it's hard to choose what to field. I'm looking into this: Core 15x Saurus Warriors - Musician - Standard Bearer 15x Saurus Warriors - Musician - Standard Bearer 10x Skink Skirmishers Special 5 x Chameleon Skinks Heroes 1x Saurus Scar-Veteran - Light Armour - Shield - Dragonhelm Total Models in Army: 46 Total Army Cost: 599 The Saurus are my main force. I want two units so that if one is caught the other can go into support it. I have the skinks as a flank harrasement unit and to take out any lone wizards/warmachine. The chameleons are there to harass and hopefully deploy behind battle lines. The decision with the hero was a hard one. Not taking a wizard could be crippling but I'm not a big fan of heavens. My Saurus will hopefully be able to survive against other heroes with a 2+ AS and S5 T5 What do you guys think? Make one unit of Saurus and get a salamander or a unit of terradons? it's hard at such a small point count.
I have a similar dilema facing me as i have an 800 point tourney coming up, ( will post myu list later in new thread) I like the idea of 2 saurus units, most armies will find it very tough to grind both units down. Chameleons in my experiance are awesome, but you may want to consider taking normal skink skirmishers, do the same job but cheaper, ok there not quite as good but you get more for your money, but either way its all gravy. For me you have one of two options for Heros: 1) stick with your scar vet, except maybe exchange something for the burning blade of chotec, great for taking on heavy armoured opponents such as WoC and dwarfs, -2 to his armour save minimum is always a good thing. Or You take a skink preist as your lone hero and makehim level 2 and give him the Plaque of Tepok, this would give you half the lore so chances are your gonna have some nice spells at your disposal, you could then keep him 3 inches from a friendly unit so he gets his "look out sir" roll but is far enought away to do minimal damage to yourself should he miscast. IMO Lore of heavens is underestimated by many. It has some useful buffs, and Thunderbolt is great for targeting independent characters and unit alike with its S6 attacks and Chain Lighting if successfully cast, is great, just the other day i cast it on a unit on the enemies left flank then watched it successfully jump accross every unit in his army, killing on average 3-4 men in each unit! i'd say in low points games, it could prove deadly. But as i say you can only take one or the other. I'd reccomend play testing both with a wizard and a scar vet if you can. As far as fitting in a slamander, YES YES YES! i'd look at making your saurus into a single 18-24 strong unit and try everything you can to fit 1 in. Maybe drop chameleons, use your skirmishers to fill their role and position the sally to protect your flank instead. Remember the awesome thing with sallys is you can march AND shoot in the same turn, so its easy to move into a prime firing position to flame as many as possible with every shot. Other wise i like the list. Hope this helps
