So what do I find in my email this morning? INCOMING: BEASTMEN! announcement from GW Set for February 2010! Thoughts? Will they finally get the spotlight?
Beasts really needed their own Book. I'll probably be starting an army if there's lots of new models to work with!
Skaven in November, Beastmen in February, Tomb Kings rumoured to be in May (according to warseer) and then a new edition in June/July. This really is the year of fantasy!
A whole new edition for the rulebook? That would suck, 7th hasn't been out very long and then Bretonnia and Wood Elves will be two editions behind. I only care cause my friend won't leave his bretonnians for anything...
Tomb Kings in May? darn, thats after my birthday... Seems kinda silly to do a new edition right after so many consecutive army updates, unless they are being semi-designed for it.
Ew. Beastmen. One of the ugliest armies (IMO) and not very good. And still people field cheese lists with them in our grand tournaments in the state and win. Absolutely astounding.
they need it. teist me i feild a core heavy beasts list. the fact that a single charecter can beat a beast heard astounds me.
Yeah to be honest, Beasts of Chaos is probably the worst army right now... Your at a disadvantage, and you only have a chance playing cheesy lists and playing smart...
A new edition already? Damn, I've hardly even started playing yet! Any ideas of what they are going to change? :S
No idea yet, though there is rumour of a massive change to the way magic works and possibly increasing static combat res by allowing bonuses for wider units (6-7) and units deeper than 3 ranks. Only time will tell what GW will do to it. IMO the system is fairly good and doesn't really need much of a change.
Hasn't played that much so I couldn't tell... but why should they change the magic rules? they would have to change every single army book then wouldnt they? Just feels weird as I thought this edition was fairly new. Also, wouldn't the game more or less become an arms race where the biggest unit won? 25 strong units of sauruses would be very expensive both to field and to buy. Oh well, we'll just have to wait an see...
Well it depends on what they change in the magic rules. If they keep the basic idea of powr and dispel dice, books wouldn't neccesarily need an instant change. But remember there was ravening hordes after 6th ed came out, a small booklet that gave basic updated rules for all races so they were at least playable until they got a full book. Again with the units, not neccesarily. Like you say, a unit of 25 saurus is very expensive. They are expensive because they hit damn hard! A lot of their combat res will come from kills, not static. I would wager a unit of 18-20 saurus would have no problem with say a unit of 30 skvane clanrats, even if they got extra static combat res for 2 extra ranks. In many cases, two smaller units will be better than one larger unit, due to the extra movement and manouvrability advantage. Remember, as soon as you hit a unit's flank they lose all rank bonuses and you get +1 for a flank charge.
oh, sure. I know sauruses hit reaally hard, but you won't get just 30 clanrats for the cost of 18-20 saurus (i think) there will be lot's of big unit's and if they hit US in the flank, then it'll hurt alot Was it in 5th that you used cards for your spells? When I started playing the first time around it was when it was lizardmen and bretonias in the starting box (heh, Lizardmen player from the start^^) and I think you used card then. Unfortunantly I abandoned my lizards for the Eldars of 40K. But as the 40k rules just plainly suck I've abandoned them as well now I just pray the rules won't go the same way as 40k did
