I may seem like a bit of a noob here, and well I am (I only started fantasy 3-4 weeks ago, I used to only play 40k) but how does 8th Ed magic work and what are the differences from 7th Ed magic. - Lizardman about to chop up a puny pinkskin. Anyway any and all help is apprieciated Thanks Mazdamundi .
Well i appreciate the simple answer but im 15 and have absolutely no way of making money. So even if you could just tell me the basics...
There are several differences. They can be broken down into two different areas (this list is not inclusive-I may miss something): Area 1: This one is easy. The spells are completely different. Area 2: Power/Dispell dice generation. 7th edition: In 7th edition power dice were generated by the level of the caster (adding any extra dice from items/rules). Dispel dice were the same way. Also a miscast happens on a roll of snake eyes (2 x 1s) 8th edition: In 8th edition, the power/dispell dice are generated by the "winds of magic." This is to represent the instability of the magical forces that are being used. Then those dice are added to the pool. Each caster is also allowed to channel (roll a d6) for an additional power/dispell die. Then you add in any items/rules that allow extra power dice. You now miscast on a roll of box cars (double 6s). When you miscast it is with irresistible force (cannot be dispelled). Those are the major differences.
Well I quess i couldnt expect different, just as i finish learning 7th ed out come 8th lol. and Arli thanks for explaining the major differences and sending me that PM ( I did just what you said and it's helped a lot)
I'd also like too add that the winds of magic or whatever is a roll of 2d6 ( 2 six sided dice) and the combined number is the power dice and you get the amount of DD equal to the highest d6 from the winds of magic If you have any further questions not related too magic and I will do my best too answer them
If you don't think you'll be able to save up for a rulebook you may want to buy the deck of magic cards. They are about $12, and that way once you get caught up on the core rules you will be able to play with magic without constantly grabbing someone's rulebook to see what spells you can cast.
