Hi there, I enjoyed playing lizard men in 7th edition, but lost a bit of enthusiasm for warhammer when 8th came out. However, the new End Times story arc has got me excited about fantasy again and I am thinking of resurrecting my lizardmen. Where do they fit in with the current game and their new book? I'm not sure the Slaan in temple guard is the most exciting way I like to play. Is there scope for a more flexible list with different tactical options? Thanks for any advice.
Many players have been having success with Slann-less lists. Many are running Single/Double Carnosaurs. Tetto'eko is proving very popular as an alternative to the Slann. Large units of Kroxigors are showing up over Skrox. CO bus can get the job done. Here are a couple helpful links from both the tactica forum and the battle report forum. Sleboda's BatReps (very nonSlann) http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/the-path-to-awesome-tracking-every-game-ever.13333/ Carnosaur Tactica http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/carnosour-tactica-including-dual-carno-tactica.13052/
Thanks for that. My opponent will mostly be dwarfs, thats my regular opponent. Is a nonSlann list reasonable against them?
I've only played one game with Dwarfs. Tetto'Eko is a viable alternative vs them for a few reasons: - Loremaster means he has all the spells. When they eat one with a rune, at least he should have something left to cast. - Iceshard Blizzard is your friend vs. war machines. - Heavens' lore attribute is actually not unwelcome! We have several ways to deal with gyrocopters, but they can still be a pain. However, I wouldn't recommend the Carnosaur in your lord slot instead. They're not quite Empire, but they can still do a number on it. Personally I'd still be taking a Slann WITH Tetto'Eko. A Slann is your only way of accessing the Lore of Metal or Shadow. Tetto'Eko is like a wonderful accessory here. He beefs the Slann's casting rolls AND gives you a second caster who is guaranteed to have a few nasty spells - that should give your opponent pause when they want to eat a spell.
Against dwarves in particular, i find Light to be super effective. ASF WILL hurt those dwarves, who very rarely have it themselves. loremaster high is also a good bet, because the spells are fairly good, and switching our a spell for a lore of metal roll is almost always worth it against those heavily armoured shorties.
I should say that we have a house rule that we don't use special characters so that isn't really an option for me. Looks like I will have to get a slann model! I don't own one currently. My worry about going magic heavy is that he will just shut it down. Valaya and spellbreaker makes life very difficult. Is a skirmishing army feasible? Pester him to death. Dwarfs dont really do mobility.
