I'm new to Warhammer, and I want to know which unit would be best for starting; basic Saurus infantry of Saurus Cavalry?
I think I will move this to LM discussions from the trading forum for you. Welcome to the forum by the way! The best option to start with would be Saurus since they are a core choice and you need core choices, also cold ones cost a lot of points and many people actually end up not using them at all but saurus are pretty common. To anticipate your next question in advance, equip them with spears and shields. They are much more effective that way.
Going to have to agree with Strewart. Saurus all the way. Cold one Cav will be useful later most likely though ^^ Happy gaming and good luck!
Thanks for the help. I'll probably get Cold Ones eventually anyway, purely for the way they look. Despite their high point values, I hear that they do all right if you can afford them.
They are among the best cavalry in the game, multiple attacks, high strength from them and their mount, add to that cold blooded and fear causing.. So yes they do very well if you put the points into them. I don't know why you think the models look good though. The Dark Elf cold ones are faaaar cooler. You might consider looking at the battleforce as a first buy? Then you get both saurus and cold ones, and get 20 saurus which is a much better number for a unit, plus the skinks will complete your second essential core choice and the Temple Guard look great and will be useful in larger games. Well, good luck with your army!
