I just have a couple questions, mostly about which spells to select in general. Others should feel free to pose their own questions in this thread if they like. 1. Against dwarves or another sit-back-and-fire style army, would you rather have ice shard blizzard for warmachines or comet from heavens priests? Alternate question, what if you have 2 priests. 2. Against a tough monster(s) or something similar, would you rather have amber spear or savage beast of horros to cast on gor-rok or a cowboy? (which I personally tend to run at least 1 of) 3. And slightly off-topic, if you cast iceshard blizzard on something twice, would they have to roll a 4+ twice in order to fire? I don't really see why not. Thanks for reading, I like cookies.
1: I would rather have comet, but that's because i don't like spells(or anything else for that matter) that only might do something. 2: Depends on how many other targets there are for the spear. It is a great spell, but really needs the right kind of targets. If there's just one monster and not much else with high toughness/wounds i'd stick with savage beast. Skinks can handle a lot of monsters easily with their poison. 3: good question. I'd say yes - It's a spell effect that triggers whenever you want to fire, should trigger both spells imo. Honestly i don't think there's a definitive answer to be found in the rules.
Disclaimer : I really haven't played that many games, but here's what i've picked up so far. 1. Iceshard blizzard - the spell is awesome and usefull against infantry as well as it reduces Leadership and to hit rolls (which is important), it's easier to cast and can therefore go off in a lov dice magic phase whereas the comet cannot. 2. I think it's preference, i'd go with the spear, we need ranged artillery of that kind in general, and a boosted spear SHOULD be able to seriously harm a monster. if i used 3 vets i'd prolly go with savage though as it gets less chancy to have my scar vet in that exact combat - but amber spear will always be able to take care of the monster before we break to combat (which i like), it may fail though. 3. I can't answer this, i'm not sure you can do that and i don't have a BRB near me.
My thoughts: 1a) If I roll Comet, I'll take it. Comet is infinitely more threatening and very devastating if you get it to go off against a castled up army. Gotta make them gun lines pick between dying or not shooting. But if I don't roll it I'll usually swap for Iceshard. 1b) Then I'd take both! Iceshard + Comet is a tasty treat. 2) Both are pretty good. Personally I'd take Amber Spear. Skink Priests are pretty quick and can often run circles around troops and a few Monsters. Amber Spear gives you an awesome ranged option. A buffed up Scar-Vet could wreck lots of things, but like Spid mentioned, we have Skinks that are pretty good at downing Monsters. 3) The effects of the Hexes do indeed stack, so I'd think yes. The unit in question would have roll 2D6 and get a 4+ on both of them to shoot. Granted I've never had Iceshard on 2 wizards in one army, so I've never come across this in a game. But I don't see why it wouldn't work that way. And yes, cookies for the cookie god.
About iceshard making you roll a 4+ twice to fire, I don't think it works like that. From memory, while hexes stack, I don't think the same hex stacks. I may be remembering an old edition ruling. Will check later when I get home, cause it would be great if it worked that way.
I looked myself, and I don't actually see where it says that the same hex doesn't stack with itself, so I definitely don't see anything that says iceshard wouldn't work twice. Let me know if you find anything contradictory of course.
I was under the impression that the same spell could only be held twice in one army if one of the wizards was a loremaster..........
Yah. See pg 490 about sig spells. On page 31 it said that all effects from Hex and Augment spells are cumulative so long as they don't bring a characteristic above 10 or below 1. So I don't see why Iceshard wouldn't stack. Then again you might be ignoring something else if you double down with it.
Amber Spear seems more of a Cavalry killer than a monster killer to me but that's my opinion. This quote made me think of this comic. Perhaps it should be your signature? Or quote yourself saying I like cookies than the response from Qupakoco. SoB or N810, or just N810 should be able to cook up a nice custom avatar for you. I'm thinking a Lizardmen or Khorne hybrid with Sesame Street's Cookie Monster.
Sorry, I have been away form the forums recently. Well, Amber Spear powered up is basically a cannonball that doesn't miss. Multifunctional Good to know that they can stack if necessary. I just played a game where my opponent used his dice/scroll to stop the withering and wildform, so I dropped 2 iceshards and an enfeebling foe. I really, really, really like iceshard blizzard. (and yes, I'm currently running 4 casters in a 3k list). So, I had trouble finding it on my own, but if I have loremaster heavens (Tetto'Eko), and another heavens priest, I can take a spell besides iceshard (the signature) because loremaster doesn't count towards the 1 spell limit? Not that I will very often, but still. I thought that was true, but haven't been able to find it in the rulebook since I've started playing again.
Oh, and Scalenex, I like your idea on the signature/avatar. And thanks a million for the updates on the tactica index, if that's you. I find in infinitely helpful.
page 490. It states that you cannot double unless the model has no choice over which spells are known. And since loremaster provides all 7 spells - you had no choice over which were known.
