Hi all... just a few questions i have been wondering about. Has anyone had any luck fielding a Slann by itself (with no Temple Guard?) ethereal and hiding using the Skink priests line of sight rules may be the way to go on this.. Also, playing against WOC I seem to get my EOG skink involved in a challenge-so-has anybody had any success with putting the EOG in a small unit of Saurus and maybe a tooled up Scar vet to soak up the challenges? It does cut back on the Steggies movement, but it does guarantee getting the d6 st4 (or St5) power off a little more by keeping the skink priest alive longer Let me know what you guys think.. Steve
i haven't used the slann by himself since the new book but i imagine that he will be just as if not more effective as in the previous edition just keep him out of combat preferably out of sight behind terrain if possible but behind units if need be this is now fesiable since he is no longer a large target but he still sees as one once the units are about to engage in close combat he should start moving to the side of them so as not to get charged himself in case they lose combat and potentially charge the flank to take away their ranks if the combat drags on as for your problems with the EotG keep him staggered behind your units so that they get the save from him but close enough that if you need a crucial charge to turn a combat phase he can pounce this is usually about 2 inches behind your blocks of troops but with a hole big enough that it can charge through between them and give you the impact hits to possiablly turn combat in your favor
I've fielded a slann without a unit. With a superior magic and being ethereal the slann is really hard to bring down, just be careful to keep him away from close combat. You don't want goblins to rout him just with ranks. Against challenges with the EotG priest, try and get him some protection if you know the enemy is using a hero-hunter. Don't reduce the stegadon's movement by placing him into a saurus unit, it is just pure waste.
One thing I have thought of is taking a cheap 10 man ranked skink unit with unit champion and putting the engine with them, they have the same movement and could essentially be lined up along either side of the steg with any extras placed at the back. The unit champ would be able to accept challenges from the front and the skinks on the flank would protect the engine. Otherwise just keep the engine directly behind your battle line, not much will touch it there and if something does go for it then blast them with magic..
