Earthblood Mere's are great types of terrain to place for us. Our aquatic rule gives us soft cover in them (yes its the same as a forest, but no need to worry about the forest turning ugly and hurting you). Additionally you get a 6+ ward save in the marsh. It isn't much, but its free!

Finally, nobody can charge in at you (unless they are skirmishers) without taking dangerous terrain tests. Calvary and chariots fail on a 1 or 2!

The Earthblood Mere seems, to me, to be a great terrain option for us. Our skirmishers can sit in them and cherry pick passing units with relative safety. Chameleon skinks inside of them would even be -3 to hit with ranged weapons!

Here's another great terrain strategy. Run a cheap lvl 1 skink priest with cloak of feathers. Just 90 points! Throw down a wizard's tower somewhere near the center line, during deployment. Fly your priest to within 3 inches of the tower and you suddenly know all heavens lore spells (including comet). From here, decide if you want to play it safe with low level spells, or go nuts and cast a comet with 6 dice, chain lightning with 5 dice, etc. If you blow yourself up, it was all worth it for just 90 points...
