Hello to everyone, just a quick explanation before I get on to the specifics, I've currently been playing for about 4-5 months since my return from 5th edition and have read quite a few topics regarding the changes to the rules, and on building army lists. I'm mostly into this game for the painting but I do like fair, even games between two people and I haven't been providing that since my first tournament against other new players, in which I came second. I'm currently in a 2500 point Blood in the Badlands campaign however and have been through several games already, only one of which I even gave my opponent a challenge (Tomb Kings), and that was mostly due to their horrible new book, that was also my only win in the campaign so far. I was hoping some of you may be able to provide suggestions or links to good, current Strategy/ Army building tips for the Lizardmen that I may have missed.

The armies in the Campaign: Lizardmen (me), VC, Tomb Kings, Empire, Ogre Kingdoms, Dwarves, Chaos Dwarves, and WoC. I'm Currently Allied with Empire and Dwarves, although that just means the likelihood of us battling is lowered, not 0.

My generals/some units and characters are restricted to:

    Army #1:
General: Saurus Oldblood w/ Helm of Discord, Dawn Stone, Piranha Blade, Ironcurse Icon, Cold one. (Yeah my mistake)
Skink Skirmishers x 10 w/ Javalin 1/2 Strength (need to find out if that rounds up or down)

    Army #2:
General: Slann Mage-Priest w/ Mystery (Light), Rumination, Cogitation, BSB Jaguar Standard, Cupped Hands of the Old Ones, Ironcurse Icon
Hero: Skink Chief, Terradon, Javelin, Shield, Gamblers Armour, Dawn Stone, Bane Head, Giant Blade (woohoo mine rolls!)

    Army #3:
General: Slann Mage-Priest w/ Mystery (Life), Rumination, Cogitation, BSB Razor Standard, Bane Head, Feedback Scroll
Core: Saurus Warriors x 40 w/ Fear special rule

    Regarding models I have:

    Lords:
    x1 Slann Mage Priest
    x2 Carnosaurs
    x1 Tehenhauin
    Several Oldbloods

    Heros:
    Several Skink Chiefs/Priests
    1x Ancient Stegadon w/ Engine
    1x Regular Stegadon
    1x Oxyotl
    1x Tetto'Eko
    1x Tiktaq'To

    Core:
x6 Jungle Swarm + extra models and bases for several more
    x44 Saurus Warriors
    x36 Skinks

    Special:
    x6 Chameleon Skinks
    x18 Cold One Cavalry
    x1 Kroxigor
    The previously mentioned Stegadon
    x24 Temple Guard
    x3 Terradon Riders

    Rare:
    x1 Razordon Hunting Pack
    x2 Salamander Hunting Packs

Any help would be appreciated, I don't know if this is a matter of not having enough models for appropriate sized units or if I may be misusing them, usually I'm running one or two solid units of saurus, some skinks, two sallys, and a slann with temple guard escort. Thanks in advance.

The Rule Book says to round up. (yay, Strength 2!)

If I ever take an Oldblood as a general, I typically stick him on a Carnosaur. It's just more fun that way :)
Sounds pretty typical. There are a ton of tactics that you can use with that army. Study up!

For a 2,000+ pt army, here are some good offensive tactics, though these require more Saurus:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penetration_(warfare)

and a good all skink army tactic:

    and my personal favorite:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oblique_order

If you have a plan in mind at the beginning of your next battle, stick to it! I have found that things usually get all messed up when I compensate for casualties or enemy movement. That's what we use skinks for after all, isn't it? They can provide cover, re-direct, or even hold up a unit of infantry with close combat for a turn while your main fighting force gets into position.

I have the my World History teacher to thank for the idea to not re-create the wheel when it comes to tactics. I am by no means an expert on infantry maneuvers so I try to use some historically proven tactics to help me out. Of course the real world doesn't have magic and dragons, but you can figure out how to fit them in.

    Huzzah!

Yeah I wish, but I didn't have carno models when we started this...Crossing my fingers for a lucky +1 army roll.

Yeah I'm familiar with all of these tactics and try to use them when possible....Doesn't work well to be honest. Though I appreciate the ideas.
