Hello my fellow Lustrian warriors, my name is Izzetmaster, and I do believe I am new around here.

A little backstory: My uncle got me into Warhammer when I was a young lad, and for the first few years I played I collected Vampire Counts loyally. I played for a little, but soon became distracted, and then high school removed all thoughts of Warhammer from my mind.

Now, with one more semester of college remaining, I have decided to get back into things, and start from scratch with a new fighting force, the children of Lustria. Much has changed since my introduction into this game (back in 5th edition). and from skimming the BRB, I can tell I have much to relearn. So any help and tips to get me on my way will always be much appreciated.

Without further ado, I present to you my 500pt army list:

    Heroes

    Skink Chief
    • + Terradon
    • + Light Armour
    • + Enchanted Shield
    • + Sword of Striking
    • + Lustrian Javelin

    Core

    20 Saurus Warriors
    • + Full Command

    Special

    5 Chameleon Skinks
    • + Stalker

    5 Chameleon Skinks
    • + Stalker

    Total - 499pts

This is my first time making a list for the Lizardmen, so I haven't exactly gotten all of my tactics and choices down, especially not for small games. But my thought process for each choice is as follows:

Skink Chief: Mounted on a Terradon, with Light Armour and the Enchanted Shield confers this guy a 3+ armor save as well as 6+ parry save when using the ES with the Sword of Striking. Not too shabby for a skink, eh? The Lustrian Javelin was thrown in there for last second usage of points. I figure I might be able to use it once, get a lucky pot shot on an enemy war machine, or very minimally (I stress minimally) soften an enemy infantry block for the ensuing close combat. The Terradon allows the chief to get important mobility for flank charges on units being held in place by my sturdy Saurus Warriors. He can Drop Rocks if need be on pesky enemy flanking units or war machines. On paper, this seems like a fair idea. I am still collecting the models so I have not experienced how he actually preforms in games. Hopefully, he'll be as useful as I am seeing him to be.

Saurus Warriors: I feel like there isn't too much to say about these guys. Solid infantry, 4+ armor save and 6+ parry save. I know the sting of Predatory Fighter all too well from a few friendly games with my local group, teaching me some of the nuances of 8th edition, and I am more than happy to finally be able to field it myself. 20 Saurus at 5x4 formation gives me solid ranks, and with 11 attacks at strength 4 in the front row with possible extra attacks gets me excited. At the very least, I will be using these guys as my anvil unit with which to slam the Skink Chief into the side of whatever enemy unit these guys are holding up. They take up half of my point allotment at this level, which I know could be dangerous, but I feel as if a big infantry block is necessary in both small and large point games. Am I correct in this idea or do you all feel that this is too many points to sink into a unit in this size of a force?

Chameleon Skinks: Split into two units of 5 as opposed to one big unit allows me to be much more efficient with their shots. Ballistic Skill 4 (the Stalker has 5) feels very nice, even if using the multiple shots on the blowpipe I am still much better off than with Skink Skirmishers. These slithery fellows' first objective will be immediate elimination of enemy war machines if at all feasible. If no war machines are present, I will use them as extreme harassers. High movement and BS means moving and shooting at close ranges is more effective, and the more effective it is the more annoying for my opponent. I have also thought about using them as re directors, maybe being able to force a less insightful opponent where I want them to go instead of where he does.

Overall Thoughts: I feel as if I like where the list is going, but there a couple of things that glare out at me immediately. 1) No magic. This may or may not be a problem at this points level, but my current list leaves me without even a dispel scroll. This may turn out to be an extreme weakness of my force if my opponent chooses a spell caster as his hero, leaving me twiddling my thumbs while he bombards my units with magic missles and the like. And 2) 150pts of my army is taken up by two units who have little combat prowess. The Saurus are fine, and I feel like kitted out the way he is, the Skink Chief will hold his own. Is this a problem? Or will Chameleon Skink's mobility and kiting capabilities far outweigh this drawback?

That about wraps up my first presented army list and first post on this board! Did you find the format okay? I tried to use color coordination (unit choices in different colors, mounts in light green, armor in red, weapons in purple, and yellow for upgrades to models in the unit) to make it easy on the eyes and easier to understand. Feedback and criticisms are always welcome. Just let me know!

    Cheers.
