    Hi Gents,

Before posting in the Army List section, I would like to get your opinion on what to play versus Wood Elves (4001 format).
Basically the person I will play with will have potentialy is Dragon, Treeman Lord , War dancer, dryad, forest guys...
And also the point is that his army 100% with no movement penalties.

I'm currently thinking of playing two Slaan one KK on Carno...Two units of cold ones but I realy get doubt on the real strategy as War dancer and dryad are strong and good movement as Skirmishers...

Thanks in advance for advise before I can make a good list.

well taking our monsters like the ancient steg would help, wood elves have trouble taking on big monsters that and big blocks of solid units, most of the would elf list lacks static combat res so be sure to watch your flanks at all times. Utilize your skinks, razordons, terradons and ancient stegs anything that can put out alot of poison hits, wood elves dont really have any armour to speak of either so lots of poison shots should do the trick, also helps that they are toughness three.

You shouldn't worry too much about a Dragon, they're not that useful (The Wood elf one that is!) and won't put too much hurt to anything but skinks. It's more of an annoyance than an actual threat. (Although it is quite effective against high armour stuff) It has a ward save though, but it's negated by magic stuff like any forest spirit.

Treemen are slow, even with a M5, and is also not that tough as anything with flaming that can negate it's ward and get through most of the armour will kill it, no exceptions. Thankfully we have this awesome 20pt magic weapon available that does just that. I'm talking about the hot, good and cheap burning blade of Chotec!

Wardancers can be quite effectively handled by skinks. All you just have to avoid is being in combat with them. Same goes for Dryads, altough you can very well charge them, as long as you don't let them utilize their full strength attacks as even a minimum group (I recommend those) of 8 can put the hurt to anything if they get to attack first.

In short, the Wood elves' strengths are countering shooting, hugging trees and making quick hit-and-run attacks on stuff. So negate them any trees to hug, shoot at them with multiple poisoned shots (like we have a lack of those) and if they want to be in combat, don't let them!

    Cheers!

when i played againts them i used slann with lore of life. and used to downgrade his shooting. that is i used that spell where no shooting 12" around the slann with S4 or lower. that realy hurts wood elves. the other think that works great againts them is eotg. when treeman got out of woods he had 3-4 wounds already :D
i realy lie magic armys so i didint try CC army againts them

Keep your EOTG, saurus blocks and slann in a tight group at the centre of the field. The forest lovers rely somewhat on peeling off units, isolating them and taking them down. If you hold the middle, magic the bejesus out of any shooty stuff and wait for him to come to you theres probably very little that will survive a few turns within 12" of your EOTG.
