Has anyone come up against this and what works. the second i get close, my slann unit gets nailed by a dwellers irresistably. i only have protection from it for one turn when i pop a strength potion, but after that my slann will die 50% of the time. Plus i can't even dwellers him back (not that unit anyways)
That banner is a nasty one. I faced it at a doubles tournament when it was in 40 white lions- we were playing 1k each this guy had 2k to himself- killed his entire army except this unit with the banner and some noble elf fella. It butchered 20 saurus and 7 cold ones in a single turn leaving all of my close combat units destroyed bar a single cold one. My sallie was picked off by elf archers and my skinks were charged by some spearmen mid game. Even my doubles partner's artillery line got charged by the lions. Moral of the story: If the banner is in a big CC unit don't go anywhere near it. Kill off the rest of their army and hope you have enough to kill it. If teclis is in it sit and wish you had a magic item to bump him off for minimal sacrifice.
If you have comet of cassendora, it would hit the unit as you are not targeting the unit, but the ground (unless I am wrong). Would the banner cancel out the extra impact hits from a skink chief on stegadon with war spear?
Fly into him with two Skink Chiefs on a terradons, one with the Sword of Striking, light armour, shield, dragonhelm and potion of toughness, and the other with any combo (shield of ptolos is only 25 pts and gives a 1+ save vs shooting, so can help to ensure he gets there). Challenge with the second Skink - the Elves will accept with their champion hopefully. Now you can allocate the attacks from the first Skink directly on to Teclis. Declare the potion on the turn that you charge. He'll be T6 with a 3+ armour save. All he has to do is survive the unit's attacks, which he's sure to do, and then direct his attacks against Teclis. He is WS4 and Teclis is WS3, and the Sword of Striking gives him +1 to hit, meaning he hits on 2+ and wounds on 2+. He should kill Teclis no problem. Next turn both skinks will die, but they cost a lot less than Teclis. This will only work once if it works at all! If you play him next time and he takes Teclis again, you could take both the chiefs again but keep them low in points, and he'll probably go to great efforts to shoot them down, hopefully ignoring the rest of your army... maybe.
Becalming Cogitation should make Dwellers much easier to deal with once you're within range. Plaque of Dominion and Helm of Discord are also things to consider (though against high leadership with a BSB their usefulness is severely reduced unless you can reduce the leadership for a turn). BC, at least will prevent him from getting Irresistible Force.
he gets irresistable on any roll of a double but only if he meets the casting value of the spell. This still sucks though because he only needs to really get it off once to have a good chance of killing the slann :/ the terradon idea is good though i might give it a try
Ack! I've never played against him, but I may have heard that before and just forgotten it. That's kind of crazy, but seems like a risky proposition considering the miscast table. Still, if it gets rid of the Slaan, then I'd probably chance it too. 18+ can still be tough to hit without sixes though.
yeah becalming is the only thing saving my butt most of the time. he also gets to ignore one miscast per turn though :/ its safe to say that i hate teclis
Can he ignore a miscast if it's passed to him by an item such as Cupped Hands of the Old Ones? It almost seems like a waste, but it could be a good way to make him burn it if he is allowed to do so. If not, then throw six dice at your first spell every magic phase and hope to miscast and roll horribly on the miscast table.
If you are using Cupped Hands, then you do not hand over until after you roll on the miscast table, which means you are handing over the effect of the miscast, therefore he should not be able to ignore it. That is how I would interpret it.
It's also how GW's FAQ sees it. also you can combine the Cuped hand with the banehead (also in the FAQ) the feedback scroll is another good solution.
If he has it in a unit of white lions beware when doing the skink chief tactic. There WS5 and S6 striking first. Also Teclis wounds on a 2+ and no armour saves are allowed.
