got a doubles tournement soon and im teaming up with ogres. Its 1500 points each with only one general and bsb. No allies rules just one army made up of 2 legal 1500pts. characters can go in any unit.

now i want to take tettoecko as its suppose to be a fun characterful tournement. my question is if my friend takes 6 ogres with full command can i put tettoecko in the second rank and can he still cast spells. my tettoecko model is on a 40mm base due to his small palaquin so footprint is fine

Rules say he can only do that with Skink cohorts, but you could put him in the front rank.
(or was it that he made the cohorts stubborn or something..?)

what i mean is as the command have to go front rank he has to go in the second rank till the ogre champ is killed.

I supose, but keep in mind, unlike the slann he has no line of sight from the second rank.
not that heavens has too many of those.

Perhaps try Tehaun the Prophet of Sotek. He fights well enough to survive being the front rank and I'm guessing Lore of Beasts would do well with ogres. If you rolled Transformation of Kadon you'd get a rare opportunity to transform into dragons that LM don't often get. If not Wyssans Wildform would take the Strength and Toughness of Ogres to crazy levels. The various other spells, while less useful would probably have a place in a half-ogre army.

Um yes he does, when shooting/casting from the second rank of a unit you use LoS from the guy in front, this applies to all wizards, the only special thing (aside from permanent rank 2) a slaan gets with TG is casting magic missiles while in CC.

Actually the wording might allow him to be 2nd ranked in Temple Guard as well.

A bigger question is if he miscasts on any double or just double 6 when using his special power.

According to the BRB, the command group of a unit HAS to be in the front rank. If there is no room for characters in the front rank, due to the presence of a command group or other characters, a character will be forced into the second rank. See page 97 of BRB.

Additionally, due to the wording of the rules in the LM army book on page 43, Tetto's palanquin still works normally. So as long as he runs the Ogre's 3-wide, you'll be golden.

Hmm, good point on the first one. English is a tricky language.

As for the second one, the book says any successful roll that includes a double is cast with irresistible force. The FAQ removes that "provided it is not miscast" part. That will kind of suck for the Ogre's in his unit since IF and miscast are one in the same nowadays.

Now here's where the dilemma comes in; there are two other abilities that work just like this one, Teclis and the Power Stone/Scroll (I forget which one), the former of which has been specified to only miscast on double 6s, while the latter has been specified as miscasting on any doubles. What this means is that Micasts and IF are not one and the same, merely that they have the same normal trigger (double 6). So Tetto'Ecko is kind of in a grey area.
